so I got my Ren/studio dedicated computer

however no Ren/Studio in sight...matter of fact seems like it's drifting away than gettn closer

Anyone ever tried building a Hackintosh computer? One of my homies built his for just over 1100 with 16gb of ram (up to 24), 6 core i7 processor, a ridiculous Video card, and SSL drive.

He opened up 30 applications simultaneously, with no spinning wheel, and the all finished loading and were ready in under 4 seconds. This included Photoshop, Pro Tools, Final Cut, Dreamweaver, and several heavy applications.

it was quite impressive.

I'm running a more recent 8 core with 24GB of ram, similar in the slower clock speed at 2.4 only speed steps to 2.58 but it's still a beast. It works best with a lot of VST's, well up to 6 when a host puts them on individual cores, and it can still run a bunch more. The slower cpus aren't much of an issue with stuff like Kontakt and Omnisphere, loads everything into ram, it's nice. Maybe track bouncing takes a bit longer with the cpu's but that's no big deal.

My only slightly beefier rig runs everything real well, Maschine, Reason, Logic, Live, FL and others. u-he Diva @32/64 samples (only like 1% of the patches too) is the only way I can make it crackle or pop.

Temetpro here from the forum builds hackintoshes on daily with no problem from my understanding

he hooked me up with all the files and drivers needed so I tried it on my I7 pc with similar specs as your friend While I managed get it to work, I couldnt iron out small stuff such as get it to recognize my cpu correctly. after few reboots something happen and it wouldnt boot to osx anymore. and with bios settings I had selected for osx pc would blue screen when trying to boot to win7. after hours of tweaking it I said fuk it and gave up...so much easier to buy macintosh install your software and make beats ... then I tried setting everything up under windowx xp 64bit, I was getting bad ground loop, crackles and audio drop outs, that shit made me want to quit music all together

you got the 2008 model ? what's the specs on your beefier rig ? shit man, how many mac pros you got

No mine's a 2010, but the 2.4 isn't that much faster than a 2.1. I meant my more recent one isn't that much meatier than yours. I just got the one Mac and I run Windows on it 99% of the time. I just have OS X for Logic and Numerology3 and Drum Spillage.

Maybe the newer intels might hyperthread a bit better but I bet you get really good performance out of the one you copped.

i appreciate modesty, but I think you got twice the performance or so

there was two versions of 2.1 I got 8core 3.0ghz 8MBL2 cache 8MB ddr2 667mhz, this got discontinued and they brought out another 2.1 8 core 3.ghz 12MB L2 cache ddr 800...maybe you think i got 2nd variation
