When I hook up my Motif XS to the REN and try to play the MPC instrument plugins, the notes keep sustaining and the sound fluctuates. Sometimes the notes will play and then they won't. Is there a MIDI setting that I'm overlooking??

I went through something very similar with my Moog Little Phatty. If I played the instrument on the pads, it was fine, but if I played the Moog, the note would sustain, forever.
For me the problem was related to other vst/au instruments, one of them being MASSIVE. When I used the AU of Massive, it sustained forever. If I used the VST...it worked just fine.

This probably doesn't help you solve your problem, my bad for that. You just reminded me of this issue, and I thought I'd post it up in case someone else needs to see it.

I got it working when I changed the midi channel settings.

Yeah, mine stuck on a vst (sample tank) during an auto save. I changed the program/vst and the same sound sustained. Eventually I just turned off the auto save function and quit the software.

I'M IN THE SAME BOAT. SENDING MIDI TO THE RENAISSANCE FROM MY MOTIF XF OR MY FANTOM G6 CAUSES AN UNSTOPPABLE MIDI SUSTAIN . EVEN PRESSING STOP A FEW TIMES QUICKLY DOESN'T HELP. IT SEEMS THIS ONLY STARTED AFTER THE 1.4 UPGRADE. I'M NOW BACK ON THE MPC 5000 UNTIL I CAN FIND A CURE. ANYONE ELSE HAVING THIS PROBLEM?

MIDI can be a finicky thing being the 30 year old beast it is.

A few things to try.

Turn local mode off on your keyboard.
Try sending on only 1 MIDI channel rather than ALL MIDI channels.
Turn off any kind of MIDI through or loopback function on your keyboard.
Turn off unnecessary MIDI inputs for your keyboard in the MPC preferences.
If you are using USB, try standard MIDI cables instead.

Pretty much just try to simplify the amount of MIDI data being sent, sounds like the note off events are getting missed or lost in the data stream. Might just be sending too much information at once for poor old MIDI (happy 30th MIDI)

My MotifXS is setup stock except that I changed Utility > Control > Midi > Midi In/Out to Midi versus USB or MLAN. My midi is still set to Omni and default settings.

I have it hooked up by Midi to my Roland VS-700 midi in as I use it as my audio soundcard in the MPC software. All the soundcard settings for Midi are default and I have no issues with stuck notes either with the VST's that came with the REN nor Omnisphere. I don't have massive so I never tried it.

If this is a problem with VST's like Omnisphere as well, then there is something happening on the REN's end of Midi, as using pretty stock settings (except changing the above for Midi cables instead of USB or Firewire MLAN in the Motif) for Midi on both the Motif XS and my sound card, I have no issues with stuck notes in the MPC software.

SEEMS I FOUND THE CULPRIT. ITS THE RENAISSANCE'S MIDI INTERFACE. WHEN I SENT THE MIDI INTO MY SUPER RELIABLE RME UC AUDIO INTERFACE, THE PROBLEM STOPPED. YOU CAN HOWEVER STILL USE THE MPC'S 4 MIDI OUTS TO SEND TO YOUR SYNTHS BUT IT'S THE MIDI IN PORTS ON THE REN THATS CAUSING THE NOTE SUSTAINS. ACCORDING TO PREFERENCES>HARDWARE>SHOW HARDWARE INFO, I'M RUNNING FIRMWARE VERSION V1.01. MAYBE A FIRMWARE UPDATE CAN SOLVE THIS. FOR NOW, I'LL JUST SEND THE MIDI IN INTO THE RME.

I am using a Korg Kronos with the Ren. I can't produce any sustaining note issues whether I use the Ren's MIDI ports or USB.

I have another thread going on this. Can any of you that are Motif XF users tell me you're settings?
