I am also having a problem using the MPC Ren as an RTAS plug in on Pro Tools 10 on mac os x. I am getting input, but I can't seem to record midi. I have checked my peripherals and i/o settings and can't figure it out.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: if anyone is using mpc ren in PT 10, what is your setup?!?
thanks

Jah, could you send me your Pro Tools 10 session, so I can see how you have the MPC plugin outputting a different midi channel per MPC midi track to instrument tracks? I have NI Komplete Ultimate, so any instrument will work for the example session.

Thanks!

I'll try to get that to you. Any specific plugins you are using?

I spent some time getting the mpc to sequence instruments in Live as a plug and haven't had much luck. Can't get more than one channel of midi. I was able to get the Ren working like a classic mpc sequencing instruments when it's launched as a stand alone app, sending 16 channels of midi into Live. I'm running midi out of the Ren into motu midi interface. Sure would be nice to get this all happening all in Live or PT, but for now it's only a matter of saving the Ren session and the DAW session. Not a workflow killer & I'm avoiding any plugin instrument crashes or glitches by no loading them into the Ren.

Quick vid I made showing how I get down with the Ren and Live. I laid down a basic 2 bar sequence with quantize, will go more in depth once i feel like getting techy.

Im not understanding how to get the sequencer working right as a plugin. Maybe one of you guys can shed some light! Im trying to use the plugin in Protools/Logic but when I try to route midi into the specific instruments channel all I see for MPC options are the physical ports of the hardware and MPC Public. And selecting any of those on an instruments channel does nothing... My output ports are set to DAW in the preferences but it doesn't appear to be working correctly for me. Am I missing something here?

Thanks :-D

If anyone knows how to get Pro Tools to host VSTis while using Ren to sequence please let me know so I can inform AKAI. They have no idea how this can be executed, see below:

Subject: Re: MPC Renaissance - Support Request

I am able to open Ren in Pro Tools as a VSTi, but it is not responding correctly. I am not able to open other VSTi's in PT, and have Ren be the main sequencer. Please guide me about to proper set-up. I am running 10.6.8. Thanks Greg Holmes.

We recommend getting the specific steps from the user who suggested this. There I no innate ability of the MPC software to control any other tracks within the master DAW beyond the track that it is installed on as a plugin. There may be other non-standard ways of using the MPC software and we recommend contacting the person who suggested this specific setup to determine exactly the steps they took to achieve it.

Thanks!

P.S. It would be interesting to know how it is done.

Best Regards,

Greg Holmes

That's cool.
Can you also route the tracks of the MPC Software to you mixer's daw when your daw is used as a plugin?Or you must only have your daw as a host in order to do that?

JAH wrote:The MPC Ren plugin (VST/RTAS) can output MIDI to plugins not hosted in the Ren. When used as a plugin, your DAW takes over the Ren's MIDI ports. In the Ren's preferences, the MIDI outputs should be set to 'DAW'. Within your DAW, set the MIDI input device for all your instrument tracks to 'MPC' in order to use the Ren's sequencer.

This method allows you to do all the sequencing inside the Ren and all the mixing inside your selected DAW.

Dope ! Thanks !

Dope indeed ... if it actually worked.

But as of 1.1, MPC Renaissance does not send MIDI out in Plugin Mode.

So you will have to sequence your drums and samples in Ren plugin and your synths via DAW MIDI out ... that is if you must run in plugin mode

I can't figure out how to install the MPC Software as a plugin in FL.
With any other vst plugin,I copy the dll into the appropriate folder in FL,then I refresh the plugin's list in FL and I'm ready to go.
But with the MPC software, what do I have to do? Do I have the copy/paste the application? But when I do so,nothing appears in FL...
Any help please.

FL only looks for plugins in the Image Line VST folder by default. Or whatever folder you tell it to use. (I use C:/Program Files/VSTplugins and inside that folder I told the FL installer to install the Image Line VST folder).

The VST's with installer .exe's I direct to that folder, the ones that are just copying .dll's I place in there manually.

For the Ren software I would make sure I directed the installer to put the VST in my preferred VST folder that FL is already using. I wouldn't get into copy/pasting an actual .dll file with a plugin like the Ren, it has too many dependencies on other installed data. (Unlike other VST .dll's that have everything in the .dll file.)

It might work to create a shortcut to the original .dll location and place that where FL scans your VST's, because the original .dll file still knows the data paths from the original install.

I'd just re-install and make sure the VST goes to the confirmed/preferred FL VST location.
