Anybody else find copy/paste useless in the software?

Am I the only one having trouble with copy and pasting notes/events from the software with the mouse? Whether trying to copy notes/events to another bar or to another track, it's a nightmare trying to get the notes to paste in the exact place in time within the bar or track that the original notes are located at. Instead of the software pasting the notes at the same location in time, it places the notes at the point where ever the playback marker is. Pretty good functionality, except when your notes aren't quantized to the grid.

Now this works GREAT from the hardware, because under sequence edit, you can select the exact place in time you want to copy and paste it to the exact place in time you want. My problem is just in the software.

The way it should work is if I copy snare note, for example, from a bar 5 on track 7 at time 005:02:035 and I paste the notes on that same exact track, the notes should paste according to the quantize setting. So in this case:

*if I set the TC to BAR (which MPC doesn't have), this note I just copied should paste at 006:02:035.
*If I have the TC set to 1/4, this same note should be pasted at 005:03:035.
*If I have the TC set to 1/8, this same note should paste to 005:02:515.
*Now, if I copy this note to a completely different track, I should be able to click a pad in the sequencer and pressing paste should paste the notes at the exact same time of 005:02:035, regardless of TC setting!

Hopefully this is understandable!

I understand and feel your pain because I've been going through the same pains. One thing I would do that really isn't ideal is put a dummy note at the beginning of the track and copy that then delete that dummy note and then go paste it to the track I want. Just have to make sure your cursor is at the beginning of the track.

Its such a headache, I quit using the software for this purpose.

Like you said earlier...its just easier from the hardware.

Definitely, something I'd like to see addressed in a future update.

Well, I'm using a neat trick working fine: I add an "empty note" (i.e. I record a pad or click a note) on beat one of bar one. Then I mark all the notes and copy them with T.C. on, so that my empty note snaps to beat one of bar X. Afterwards I delete the empty note and everything is the way it should be.

Yeah, that's what Jig suggested above!

Me too.

It's called relative paste in some sequencers. It should be default. Or at least a secondary paste command.

I got fed up with the copy and paste on the track and just upped the bars and recorded it again.

I clearly have no patience lol

I use copy and paste often and it works well. I even highlight with mouse and do a quick CTR+C and CTRL+V (Win8 tho)

I found you just have to have the 'line' in the program highlighted, and mark the timeline right where U want the input to start.

First couple of times I was like... WTF is this... Found myself just using copy notes and events in Seq edit... then I got it and it makes since and I copy paste with speed

What if the first note in the selection is not on the timing correct grid, how to you line up the insertion point in the same relative place within a different bar?

I nudge it with the quantize/grid off

Sorry, I either use ghost notes or just set the first note on spot. Those are workarounds, sure, but some I've used on more than one sequencer that didn't support that relative whatchacallit.
