Q-Link Question or Request

On the mpc4k and the mpc5k, one q-link knobs or faders can control effects or filter parameters on all pads in the program section. Instead of assigning a q-link to each pad.

For example, on the mpc5k in the q-link section you had the option to select [NONE],[ALL] or [Assign a Pad] to control filters movements.

The ren software there is only [NONE] and [Assign a Pad].

I guess I'm the only one here making house music, that need this feature.

I'd also like to know if this is possible?

i also need this urgently, i make house too. i think that generally before the mpcs were not used for house and techno so much but now there is more and more users and our needs differ somewhat to the hip hop guys so there are lots of things that it doesnt do that it should..

this function mentioned is essential, any knob that turns should record midi data into the ren.

I dont make much house music but I have been requesting this since 1.1, qlinks NEED to be able to control a whole program, not just one pad at a time.

+1 for something like this.

But I would like to control program parameters of several pads at once as well as all pads.

EG, filter cut off on pad 1, pad 2 and pad 3 assigned to a single q-link.

Maybe if we could apply a qlink control to a pad group??

My current work around: EG. If I've got 3 samples i want to effect:

First I assign the samples to separate pads as usual and record the track.
Then layer those samples onto one pad.
Next, change the velocity response of each layer to respond to a specific velocity level e.g:

layer 1 127-127
layer 2 126-126
layer 3 125-125 etc..

Then change the velocity of each pad hit in the recorded track to correspond to this layering.
Then copy and paste those pad hits onto the layered pad within the track.

Your assigned qlink now effects program parameter of the pad and thus all samples on the pad -woohoo!(ish)...

Of course if you want to use velocity that plan is out the window.

If we could assign different samples across the keys in a keygroups that would have worked too but we can't!

I know you can just route multiple pads to a plugin effect but you can only use Qlinks to control either FX or program parameters at one time, not a combination of the two.
Switching between them live would be too much for me to deal with while doing track mutes, sequence changes and live hits etc.
Also I don't think you can record Qlink plugin FX automation.

If you want to 'Automate' and entire program....you must use MPC Keygroup Programs. Keygroup programs have the same params as drum programs and have done under-utilized by most forum members (MPC 4000 and 5000 are the only other MPCs with Keygroup programs). If you want a Keygroup program to function like a drum program, simply create one using 128 key groups. Assign each key group to a single note/pad. Then assign your samples. Now...you can uses Note On Automation (Tuning, Pan, Level, Filter, Envelopes) across the entire Keygroup program. You don't have to draw in automation. You can record it using the Qlinks.

Not sure I knew that a key group was a different thing to a key group program

for what its worth - lots of house music was made on mpcs. the filtering though was likely external as the internal filters on 'classic' mpcs never worked the way that filtered house sound needs.

Agreed! MFC42 rules!! I could do with 2....or maybe 3?!
I can't get the virtual stuff to kick like that mule yet.
But I've only just gone 'soft' thanks to the irresistible temptations of the ren, I can see that pot of gold, just ain't got to it yet.
