After getting a few projects on the go, the REN is bugging.
Yesterday i had sequences not playing back correctly, the thing wouldn't turn back ON.
WTF!!!!
I paid £700 for this!!!!!!
I went from a maschine which i didn't have any issues with to what i thought was a better product.
its 2013 and the REN isn't even stable, as a stand alone product or a DAW.
I watched all the tutorials before buying and have been misled, along with a load of other people.
So can anyone tell me, if they have managed to return it back to AKAI
Thanks
I'm sorry, but i don't get it clearly. You bought it in january, and 3 months later you decides to send it back for crashes, after spending "a little time with it" - at the moment the REN have never been as stable, like most of users say ? If Maschine was ok for your workflow, why changing for a REN ? Check your computer stability. Do a big clean. And instead of tutorials, check the amount of posts here about current REN/VSTi compatibility. Each update make the REN compatible with more and more VSTi. IMO, it is the worse moment to send the REN back, because it's on his growing curve. There is a huge confidence back on this gear. Akai does the job.
let the man make his own decisions rather than cheerleading for the opposite team just to contradict him... so the renaissance is FINALLY getting to a point where it's going to do what it was advertised as doing last year... i'd hardly call that "akai doing their job"... it's them doing a halfass one. i'd be fed up with a piece of gear that didn't do what it was supposed to out the box as well. if those advertised features weren't really available and were written in future tense it should say so on the box.
Far from me the idea to "not letting the man", or "cheerleading" anything. Much less "contradict" for nothing. It is not the point. The post was sufficiently surprising and ambiguous - between bugs issues and hardware issue - to know a little bit more about the real problem. Hard and/or Sequence problem ? Gear and/or computer issues ? Not so happy about the Ren workflow comparing to Maschine ? I'm sorry but i work with a 16gb MBP 17'' i7, isolated from internet, perfectly clean and monitored that way, and i don't have bugs issues. I think it is the same with a clean i3 or IntelC2D PC. Ren is still a susceptible hard/soft combination, first because it is a hard/soft host AND vsti product, that occurs an infinite amount of dev tests, and second it is a young product. Just remind Maschine at is debut. Difficult to use at his promised level, hundreds requests and dissatisfied posts can testify.
If i have a hard on/off problem with my new iPhone, i'll effectively send it back, but i won't say it was better with my Blackberry - even if it was partially true

. And our guy is disappointed, but not seems to have used the Ren a lot since its purchase. Bying a Ren in January means you can't ignore the big issues that Ren had until 1.3 , and that you're buying, effectively, a gear that is on the way to work as it was supposed to right out the box, the first day of release in sept 2012. Everybody knows that, and people go on buying the Ren. They accept it or not. And yes, from this "by everyone known" Ren soft state soon 2013, Akai did the job to get back the confidence in their product, because lots of people go on buying the Ren, seeing the updates work, love the hardware/soft combination and workflow, even if they know that the Ren "should have done the same work out of the box 6 months ago". From this time, crash/bug issues have mostly decreased, and if big bugs go on on some set-ups, and if people need to be help instead of just send their gear back and announce it, they can give some more details on their problems and configuration, i.e list of plug-ins, VSTI, host, system, etc...
I was just saying that. The hardware issue is one thing, it can happens with your washing-machine or your TV, and the gear must effectively send back, but it was not so clear, and it has nothing to do with "Maschine was good to me". Except the hard issue, fatdog can give some details about his set-up, VSTi used, etc for the only SOFT issues, which is different.
