Hi Guys been a while, been out the beat making game for a while due to work commitments, but been keeping an eye on the Ren, as a 2500 owner i had to get the Ren.

Any way I need your help, I basically swapped out my 2500 with a REN, 2500 to be Ebayed for those interested.

I am using a mac book pro 2008, I am basically setup the way the REN quick start manual suggest, what i'm looking for is a way to sample my mp3's hosted on my mac book into the REN with out re sampling. I find loading whole tracks onto pads then to extracting the parts i want to chop does not lend it self to the REN's quick work flow.

I tried connecting my USB audio interface to mac book which then connected to mixer and then from mixer to REN audio interface and sample external from REN.

This how ever led to some strange behavior, I could hear everything fine, a signal was being indicated by LED indicator next to the Line and Phono switch .

But the Display screen indicated that there was no signal and it would no record anything :hmmm:

I have tested the audio interface in the default configuration and all is working as expected.

Any suggestions or thoughts are welcome

Make sure the switches on the top (mic vs cinch) and on the back (phono vs line) are in the correct positions.

"looking for is a way to sample my mp3's hosted on my mac book into the REN with out re sampling" :hmmm: seems a bit of a contradiction

use soundflower then no need for mixer still convoluted way of doing things i think.

dont use extract use copy sample and the adjust start marker

i copy the sample in your case whole mp3 16 times for first 16 pads then adjust you start marker on each yeah i know wish there was a nicer way maybe soon lets hope :-D

chop with regions 128 max (works well for whole tracks) only problem with this is you have to change pad banks to hear different chops from different ends of the key range, Jah mentioned this a few months ago, the need
for use of midi keyboard in sample edit really needs doing and very simple to implement please sort it A-K-A-I

or you could chop it up 128 regions then flick through each sample in program edit see which one work well against each other.

yeah we all want sample edit improved an update please that blitz sample edit would be amazing

bar using other external wav players or daw or sample editors i can't think of any
easier ways

on a side note i would love to have Re-sample option on in Sample Edit page as you could scroll with the start marker/play head and press the pad at the same time, which would be very handy for grabbing bits of audio from large samples as you scroll the wave or scrub the audio on the fly (similar to the way you would capture audio from a vinyl or cd) add looping to that and adsr or lfo you got lovely instant re-sampling machine all within Sample Edit mode !!!

you could use you 2500 for this technique using the digital out of the ren for re-sampling scrolled audio in the ren then via usb connection between ren and 2500
send the audio back as the 2500 drive will appear the ren browser.
you can't send the audio back to the digital in cause you get feedback which is a pain

ok that's me done good-luck enjoy peace hair grease all that good stuff

1
i simply cant believe the software cant spread samples out on a keyboard... wtf!

2
so now im hearing resampling doesnt work like it simply should.. this is advanced sampler software yes akai?

3
feedback on digital return?

on these points alone amongst my other gripes are reasons im not interested in the ren anymore untill these 'out the package' type issues are addressed..

Thanks Danny for the reply, I will def try sound flower. One other option i thought of was using a jack to phono cable from mac book pro line out to ren external phono connections.

if i understand correctly what you want to do: your mpc software is on the same computer as your mp3s that you want to sample? if so, in your computer, what do you have set in your sound preferences for audio? internal or ren? if internal, then why not use a 1/8" to 1/4" cable. the 1/8" out from the headphone jack from comp. to 1/4" in the ren

@ maxim1: did you manage to sample, now?

wow, i thought i was the only dude to deal with this prob. Coming from the asr10 and mpc 2k5 i never had a problem with sample recording, love the Ren but this issue drives me nuts:

session out from rane61 is plugged into mpc ren phono-input jacks. the switch (on the back) is on "Line" and rec gain on "phono-in". apparently theres a signal on the db-meter beyond phono-in switch but actually no sound is on any recorded sample.

any help is a appreciated, thx

See if this works:

1. In MPC Preferences menu, set the Input/Output in Audio Preferences to MPC Renaissance.

2. Connect audio source to Phono In (back of the MPC Ren). Set the switch to 'Line'

3. Set Rec Gain (top of the MPC Ren) to 'Mic/Line'

4. Set the Rec Gain knob to center position

5. Set Direct Mon knob to 'Input'

6. Enter Sample Record Mode. Set Input to 'External'. Set Monitor to 'On'

7. Send audio from the 'Rane61' into the MPC Ren

make sure to download 3rd party application called soundflower if you want to sample off the same computer ren is installed on as ren software is incapable of doing it on its own

No problem. And depending on your M Audio cards capabilities, you may not need soundflower.

False information this feature is available on any interface with software that supports it..which can be seen with ren hardware but not the software
