Was working in FL Studio. But wouldn't unlock in Pro Tools so I reinstalled. Now it works in Pro Tools but doesn't unlock in FL Studio.

under the "help"/"about" tab in stand-alone or pro tools it shows registered to me. But plugin in FL Studio says it's not registered. did complete uninstall on driver/software even the DAW. restarted and reinstalled. no change.
I'm thinking a registry entry or some kind of registration/setting/preference file is locking it up.

On a Mac I would guess it'd just be a Plist file to delete, let it rebuild, and all good. but I'm on a PC so I'm stuck. don't know what is storing the registration info on the PC.

ideas?

Not a solution but a small tip. When FL shows a plugin as not unlocked but you know it is unlocked, delete the FL preferences file and re-scan your plugins. That way you're not doing anything to change the unlock you already know is correct, only FL's inventory list of installed plugins. Then hopefully on re-scan FL makes a new listing for the plugin in it's proper unlocked state.

I have had FL report plugins as not unlocked when they are a bunch of times. But in every case I wasn't any under unlock limit, they were all just challenge/response or serial ones. So in those cases I could do it more than once until it "took" if necessary. But with Ren you have a limited number of unlocks so I would avoid/limit re-installing/re-registering the app itself if possible.

thanks. where is the FL Preferences file? I've was looking for something like that. I did rescan but I'm thinking FL has information stored somewhere that I need to dump so it'll update the info when I rescan.

It's been a while since I've done much stuff on Windows other than at work but I think I remember that you can access registry by hitting the windows key then "R" (for run)

In the Run window type "regedit" and I think that should pull up a tree structure which you can browse or search and look for specific registry keys.

Windows Start Menu, just type "regedit" and the shortcut will come up if you don't want to use hot keys or call up the cmd module first.

But you don't need to go in the registry to reset FL's preferences.

FL should only deal with a plugins registry entry to the extent that it checks if it's unlocked. It shouldn't write or re-write any entries unless it's the unlocks for the Image Line ones like Sawer etc.

But that's not to say it doesn't sometimes screw it up. My recurring ones are my D16 FX plugins. They're legit so I just get the unlock files I have backed up and double click those and they re-write to the registry. But those aren't checked on a server and I have no limits.

But I would think if you reset the preferences the plugin list will vanish, re-scan and the latest unlock/install of the Ren software will show up properly. Even if it was FL that was responsible for whatever reason for the unlock not being originally seen or vanishing. (I never have been able to pinpoint exactly what happen when FL "loses/erases" an unlocked status).
