MPC Ren. Assignable Mix Outs?

Andy Mac spoke about it but never goes into detail about it. What is the purpose of the assignable mix outs? He also said in a vimeo class video that that's where u really hear the character of "Vintage mode"(3000/60/1200) thru the mix out?

The vintage modes are VST plugins, so I don't see how that would make a difference. MAYBE in the 3k mode, but yea. - don't see how assignable mix out would effect vintage mode. I think it's more for if your tryin to track stuff out simultaneously into daw.

Maybe not for the the 3k mode, based on akais advertising - but as far as I can tell they're just normal assignable outs, with no special vintage character (lol)

Trying turning on Vintage Mode and then resample a sequence. Import this file into your DAW.

With Vintage Mode still on, track out the Ren outputs into your DAW.

Compare the results.....

Turn vintage mode on and export the audio of the beat.. Doesn't sound any different than what's comes out of my assignable outs. Maybe your mpc is different, or Maybe they will fix that in an update

I find the assignable outs are good for if I want to print some hardware FX on a sound. I have the Assignable outs routed to the patch bay where I can then run it through some of my external rack FX units, ensoniq dp/2, pedals, or whatever.

This allows me to assign only what I want to add FX on to the extra outputs. Then route them through the FX which I can hear while the whole mix is playing (but with fx only on the sounds I want). Then I record that back to the inputs as an audio sample so that I now have the effected version and the dry version as samples to use in my project.

I really think they are best for that, when you need to process something externally as an individual sound rather than the whole mix.

It would be cool if you could use the assignable outs as a send

I am scratching my head reading your comments. There is a noticable difference in audio between an exported audio file and one that is tracked from the Ren's AD/DA converters.

The perception would be that I skewed the results to prove my point/agenda.

I would certainly like one of the forum members that own the Ren (if they still frequent this forum) to do a video on this subject.

Yea I get that there will be a difference in sound between those two things.. What I'm sayin is that the vintage modes sounds the same to me as they do in the software.. They might sound a little better coming out the outs (depending on how you record it) as opposed to exporting an audio file, but they sound better in the same way that the regular non-vintage mode sounds better... Do you see what I'm getting at? That it seems like its just an effect. Just an observation / opinion of course.

It is an effect. I am only pointing out that the sound coming out of the outputs is not exactly the same as a resampled sound with the same vintage mode effect.
