Midi Keyboard and Mpc Ren Problem Help!

When in drum mode if i try to use my midi keyboard it is mapped all wrong note C on my keyboard is playing pad 2 on the ren and the rest of the keys are all over the place how can i fix this so that Note C on my keyboard is playing Pad 1 on the mpc? the midi keyboard is working fine when i load up a vsti but when i load a drum program the midi notes are all scattered

Unfortunately, this is as currently designed. Akai with with a GM pad layout: Pad A01 - 37, Pad A02 - 36, Pad A03 - 42, Pad A04 - 82, etc.

The only way around this is to open an MPC Ren/Studio Program.xpm file using a text editor. There you can change the Note Number for each Pad then resave and use as a template.

Do you have more info on how I can do that is there any tutorials?

not trying to be a smart ass, but that's kind of the whole point of having an mpc to trigger samples from the pads unless you are using vst's etc. everybody has their own workflow i guess.

we need some kind of midi mapping feature in this software!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1. Locate an MPC drum program file on your computer.

2. Right Click the program file and choose 'Open With'

3. Select a 'Text Editor' program to open file

4. When you open the file, you will see Pad numbers and a MIDI note number for each pad. They will be in the sequence I wrote above.

5. Simply start re-numbering the pads in numerical order (36, 37, 38, 39, etc) for all 128 pads.

6. Save the program file; use as a template for future projects.

Yes. It will work for Keygroup programs as well. It is fairly easy and quick today.

I am suprised that many in the forum are not missing editing MIDI note number assignment for pads as seen in hardware MPCs.

If I remember correctly didn't the MPC 4000 have a midi note/pad assignment similar to a keyboard?

Off the top of my head, I believe every MPC released (not sure about the 500) up to the Ren/Studio allow you to change the Note Number Assignment of each pad. This is really important to my work flow especially for MIDI and Plugin Tracks.

When I used a plugin like Battery, I have to use it's MIDI learn function to map the Ren's pads to it. It would be much faster if I can change MIDI Note Assignment of teh Ren's pads from the controller.

[PAD ASSIGN] is the logical place to add this functionality IMHO.

Long time since I logged in here but wanted to thank you for this post - have been trying to work out how to interface my MPC 3000 with the Ren with very limited success due to the lack of "midi learn" feature or the ability to edit note numbers at a program level. After reading this I now have a template with all pads lined up perfectly with my 3000. Very grateful! Props Jah!

Hey guys,

I am sequencing my MFB 522 thru the MPC Ren .. all good, but want to change the note values so that A1 pad etc matches my drums, rather than starting on C3 pad.

I am trying to change my xpm file per the above advice, but can't seem to find the pad number / midi values ... here's what the relevant fields look like ....

<Value>0.000000</Value>

It doesn't seem to mention pad numbers anywhere... Any ideas?! Thanks!
