Bug reports & end-user support for Akai's MPC Software 'controllers' including the new MPC Studio 2, the MPC Touch, MPC Renaissance & original MPC Studio and MPC StudioB lack.

I've searched for this exact problem and for a solution to no avail thus far. I'm trying not to get down on the Ren prematurely but after reading all of the negative reports, coupled with my experience so far (3 days of using it for a few hours after work) Im beginning to feel panic set in.

I'm getting constant crashes.
And all I'm doing is editing samples and programs!
Last night I had four w/in an hour. This morning it happened within five min of firing up the ren. I was cycling through samples in the edit sample window!

I've steered far and wide of VSTs...not relevant to what I do really (though some external delays and reverbs would be nice!). I got the MPC because of it's integrated audio interface, robust midi integration (i primarily use external sound modules), and of course it's classic workflow which I am accustomed to. I was excited to be able to chop with a large screen finally. For the little workflow enhancements that would come from computer integration. That hasn't been my experience so far. I'm really hoping some of you other users can help me sort this out.

My computer specs: 13" Mac book running osx 10.7.5, 2.3 GHz intel core i5, 8 GB ram, and 70gb of free disk space. I am running the latest update...1.4 in 64bit mode.

UPDATE: It's been fifteen min. since my initial frustrated post. I checked to see how to boot in 32 bit mode...just to see if this would make a difference. It didn't I proceeded to chopping my samples when I booted in 32 bit mode. And it crashed multiple times. This seems to be happening when Im scrolling through samples. But I don't know if it would happen doing something else....I'm determined to trim these damn things! If I can't chop in my Ren, it's useless.

Because mpc is ram based samples.. (you load samples off harddisk into memory just like legacy mpcs) You may have dirty(faulty) ram.. Did you install it the ram on your computer yourself?? pretty sure that spec macbook usually comes standard with 4gb..

Since it is software installed on your computer It's most likely something to do with your computer .. And the mpc software is a ram based sampler.. So i suspect ram...

The only issues i get is the undo issue... But no crashing.... I load short and long samples.. Constantly use chop region number and threshold modes ... editing by extracting and discarding with no issues at all..

do your crashes happen with skimming through samples in sample edit mode? or when you are in the browser auditioning?

My spec is 13inch 2011 i7 2.7ghz mac book pro with 8gb(user installed from ram city in aus)

HAve you any other apps running while mpc software is running?

Nothing running simultaneously. I've tried it in both 32 and 64 bit mode. makes no difference. I've called Akai. The gentleman said he'd return my call in an hour max, and it's been 4. No word from them. When I called back they were closed for the holiday. Ugh.

My IT guy at work looked at my computer and tested/reset the RAM and assured me that it was fine.

I don't want to join the chorus of naysayers and people that seem to bash this instrument. I just want it to work. If it functioned as it should and was stable it would be an absolute dream for me.

Sadly I need to get this song written this weekend for a client. I'm going to have to bust out the 2000xl. Never let me down before!

I willing to assist you if you do the following: Use any of the available free screen capture recording software to demonstrate the bug you are having. Save your crash logs. If you forward them to me, I'll trouble shoot any issue(s) you have, provide a solution and/or forward to the developers as needed.

Yeah I still have a 1000 with jjos.. That thing is still quicker for me to edit samples, and the midi routing for me with other gear is still miles ahead , So i use it when needed..

Hope you get your issues solved...

With your it guy, is he a audio production it guy?

Other question is what vst have you got installed or running while you have crashes?

Jah, thanks for the generous offer to help trouble shoot. I'll download one of the screen grab apps tomorrow and record the whole thing for you. It's easy enough to replicate.

I'm not running anything other than the Ren software when this happens, and I thought got rid of all the vsts I had running other than "the noise". I was using chipsounds in an earlier version of the file, but i deleted that program.

Jah, once I have the screen capture video and crash reports how should I relay them to you?

Thanks again man!

I just sent you my email.

For what you have described so far, your MPC Software shouldn't be crashing. The screen shot, crash report , and any files you are using will be helpful to diagnose your issue.

Joel, thanks for the additional info. As soon as you can send me the project files, I can finish troubleshooting this issue and file a report with the developers.
