I just got the ren about a week ago coming from using the 2500...Is it just me or does anybody else not hear any difference between the "Vintage modes" they all sound the same to me...maybe my controller is jacked...The only one that sounds different is SP ring mode... I dont know... :Sigh:

heheh

Ive always thought this feature was the biggest waste of physiical space on the ren....
Plug in could of been good... but as a dedicated button??

I've never been sold on that vintage sound sales pitch... I'm more of a shape sounds with what you have instead of buying things for the sound of it..

I can totally hear the differences in both the top and bottom end. Both the 3000 and the 60 sound like the low / low-mid was compressed slightly and the top end cut with a shelf of about -3dB @ 15khz

I can hear a difference and I know there was a difference when I would load the same sounds up on my 2k, or friend's 3k, my 1k, or 5k...

It's subtle, but it's there...

However, I don't worry about duplicating some of those 'classic' sounds where I can use EQ, Efx, and such, here and there to give 'each' sound that 'something a little different", where the classic MPCs gave 'that sound' to the whole project.

Love the low-end beefage of the mpc60 mode.
With decent monitors + sub the differences can be heard.
Also watch the master meter and see them kill peaks.

Yes, the whole thing was poorly thought out and as we saw from the NAMM videos, even Akai's marketing guys didn't understand what was going on. Ultimately they are just VST plugins (SP ring isn't even a new plugin) and should have been provided as included VSTs from the beginning rather than the convoluted implementation they decided on. Completely backfired.

Thing is, I think they sound pretty good, so it's a shame this aspect has been overshadowed unnecessarily. Far better to say 'And as part of the included MPC Software's effects, we've included some VSTs that accurately emulate the sound of the 60/3000/sp12.'

sorry you have to listen thru monitors to hear a clear difference.
i don t care about the vintagemode i bought the mpc because of the mpc workflow.

But the MPC workflow doesn't require a mouse and computer screen.

This needs to be fixed before it has the MPC workflow they claim.

The only time ring mod mode was useful for me was with the hack and used on my main sample track! Other than that, pretty useless for me!
