Numark Support

So I have osx 10.8.5, and cannot get the firmware to install. I eventually call akai pro for support, and at this moment they're telling me that I should try to find another computer to update from because they're having to many issues with 10.8.5, but will be sending me an email once they solved the problem. I wanted my money back the first day I got this and screwed by Guitar Center and Numark, and I still have a unstable barely usable 1300 dollar product. People can spin it how they want, but that is the truth. I've explored all technical options and work a rounds. I should not have to install boot camp or find another computer to make this product work.

This is one of the big reason for me to not moving on to sequencers that requires PC/Mac. When you are dealing with PC software based sequencer (such as Maschine and MPC Ren) you are dealing with more unknown. Especially, Numark (Akai Pro) does not have a good track record on this department (so far, to be very fair, see the support history of MPC-500 and MPC-5000), compared to NI.

I hope you'll find a way to apply firmware (I believe it is for the MPC Ren's controller unit),

I always have old PC around, they sometimes saves a day. Well, my main computer is already kind of old (a MacBook Pro, running Mac OS X 10.6 and it won't run newer OS X.)

And this is the reason why I stayed away from the Ren. The 1000 and 2500 guys didn't know about Nukai's past because they had good ol JJ to fulfill their productions, but us 500 and 5000 owners know the deal with them because we been getting stiffed by them since 2007.

MPC was a product that meant something to musicians and producers alike. It had a golden badge of honor. I bought my MPC500 based alone on that legacy. But when I played it, I was like WTF is this? It was no fun at first but its in my nature to delve deep into machines, like shitty video games, it sucks but since I paid for it, I'm gonna beat it with all its flaws.

Another thing is that Akai is officially dead, its a Japanese company now owned by american corporates that know nothing about the legacy except that kids go crazy for MPCs. Thats their tunnel vision, unlike Roger Linn that had a vision for lonely guitarists whose drummer never shows up.

I did my update on 10.8.5 with no issues! I wonder if there is some setting in OSX that is the issue, not OSX itself!

Boot the Mac up in safe mode and try to install it. It's usually a security setting that would prevent an install. Although I would need to know exactly what's happening when you're trying to install it to really assist, but my first step would be to try to install it in safe mode.

I did run it in safe mode after the intial attempt. At first it said file damaged and cannot be opened, so I ran it in safe mode and got to the install screen. Followed the directions and it looked like it installed, even said it was finished. Went to open the ren for a session and I"m still getting prompted to update the firmware. After trying several more times I called support. We tried several things, (most of which I already tried) and now it no longer installs it won't even start to install, it just says "searching for mpc hardware" and never finds it. That's where Numark and I left it.

You can run a newer OS if you get an additional startup HD. You can have one startup HD with the updated OS for recreational usage, and another startup HD as your professional/music HD with the stable/older OS.

Ok..I don't know if you tried this yet, but if they're pointing the finger at the 10.8.5 update then you can Boot your computer holding the option key down. This will give you the option to boot with the recovery volume. In recovery you can re-install the OS X to get you back to 10.8.0.

file damaged to me says you should re-download the update. your file could be corrupt.

That's 101 type stuff there, when it said it was damaged I wiped it clean, restarted in safe mode then re-downloaded it. That's when it opened the installer, I didn't get frustrated until after it said it updated and then told me in the software screen it wasn't
