Help with renaissance setup please

Hi Guys,
Noob to the mpc world, I just received the mpc renaissance for my birthday and was hoping if some kind soul could answer a few questions for me please?

Firstly do I install all previous ren updates or do i just to go ahead and install the latest version?

And secondly Is it possible to use the ren with my mixer and the mixers sound card and if so what connections would i use on the back of the ren to go to my mixer?

The mixer i'm using is the tascam M-164UF

First, research what you have and what is it capable of. Your questions could've been answered already just by looking up what the Renaissance can do.

For your first question, if its new, then you don't have to do any updating except for future updates after OS 1.5. New Rens shipped with the latest operating system. But if its used, then only updating to the current OS will be efficient enough, not installing all 5 updates.

Second, your Ren is its own interface! A proper DAW is all you will need and some are cheap like one pound fish.

You can use other interfaces with your Ren if you wish, you can even combine the Ren interface and a separate one (e.g. Ren for output and other interface to incoming audio). As for the mixer, simply connect the analogue outputs of the Ren into a stereo channel on your mixer, just like any sound source. There's other set up options as well, but that's about as simple as it gets - it depends what your specific requirement are for using this mixer.

You can install the software from the latest update.

But you will have to install the expansion packs (plugins) from the supplied installation discs, and then run the software update and choose to update the expansion packs, so that they will run in 64 bit mode, and so they are available in MPC Software when running in the default 64 bit mode.

The only problem i'm having is setting up my ren to my mixer, i wish to use my mixers soundcard, whenever i hit a pad on the ren, there's a slight delay when hitting the pad to hearing the sample?

I've tried adjusting in the preferences but no change, i've got my main adam speakers plugged into the mixer, but don't know where to plug the cables from the ren into the mixer, i have the cables going from the assignable mix out, just having problems on where to connect to the mixer.

If you want to use the mixer as an audio interface for MPC Software, then you would be setting the audio device in MPC Software preferences to the mixer audio driver, and it would not be using the Renaissance audio interface.

You would not connect the Renaissance to the mixer at all in that situation, as there is no audio going in or out of the Renaissance audio interface.

The Renaissance would be connected to the computer via USB.

The mixer would be connected to the computer via USB.

The MPC Software sounds would be coming out of the mixer.


Delay between hitting the pad and the sound coming out of the speakers is called latency, and is mostly dependent on the audio buffer setting in the audio interface driver control panel.

Have you tried reducing the audio buffer size in the control panel for your mixer audio interface?

Thanks simon - all sorted now mate, having the ren plugged into a usb 3 slot was causing the latency, plugged it into a usb 2 slot and all is peachy!!!

Though a bit of a worry, though probably not really a surprise, if they have used USB2 tech that will not work correctly with USB3!

Hopefully it is driver related, and can be fixed, and is not an issue with the hardware design.
