Ren and Non-USB Midi Keyboards

hey fellas so...i just got this old ass roland piano but its actually got midi ins and outs on the back except i cant figure out -because its not a usb- how to actually get it to play whats in my vst's etc?

oh man, i think im screwed, the keyboards a roland hp800.. shhits old as fug. hahaha

couldnt figure out on the mpc what to put the settings on under the midi tab..

Midi out from Roland to midi in on Ren. In settings select which midi port of the Ren it is attached to. Set that midi port a,b,c or d on the track that vst and voila you should hear sound.Make sure the midi channel is set on the keyboard as say 1, or anything from 1-16 and make sure this number is the same on the midi channel on the Ren track settings and you should be ready to go

thanks man! but the thing is.. although the keys are playing whats in the vst, the main stock sounds in the piano are still playing on the speakers on the piano hahaha

i could plug in headphones so i dont hear the sound coming out of the speakers but still...you know what i mean?

turning down the volume on the keyboard works too but, it doesnt go fully off so i can still hear the notes a bit. blah

Go to midi settings on keyboard and turn 'local' to OFF and try setting any other midi settings as EXT. I don't know the keyboard

Yes, turn local off on the HP800, page 15 of HP800 manual...

Says it needs a MIDI cable connected to the MIDI input of the HP800, before Local Off can be selected.
