Event list editor Nutch note = shift timing

Am I stupid or are both edits identical to eachother?

Nudge note and shift timing are pretty much the same thing, only shift timing can be applied WHILE laying down your sequence

there's other uses obviously to using list edit besides just nudging/shifting notes, you can change velocity, notes, note length there also, and it was also feature from the classic mpcs

I just read in the bug report topic that shift timing isnt the same as nudging notes.
Excuse my ignorance, but what would be the difference then?

Shift Timing is based off of a quantized value and takes into account the swing setting and can only be shifted to a certain minimum or maximum position in time based on your lowest and highest quantize settings. You will reach a point where Shift Timing can no longer move a note any further. Shift Timing only shifts the quantized value/setting. Nudge is simply based off of where the note is actually placed on the grid and can be nudged where ever you want regardless of the quantize setting.

They are exactly the same, except for 2 main differences.

1) One is applied to incoming notes and one is applied to notes that are already in your sequence.

2) like hellfire said, shift timing you have a min/max value because it corresponds with quantize/swing where as nudging there is no limit to where you can move the note, and the note is not attached to your quantize settings, rather the sequencer resolution.

They are NOT the same thing. Shift Timing is applied to incoming notes OR pre recorded notes. This must be why you think there is a bug. You don't understand the difference between the two functions. Shift Timing is a mathematical adjustment that is made according to BOTH you quantize setting and swing setting. So for two different quantize settings, a Shift Timing of say +2 can place your note at two different locations. Shift Timing is basically the plus or minus to your quantize setting. Nudge just moves notes from where ever they are and it's not based on any type of math other than the current location of the note.
