Help! Does the Ren serve as master sequencer for Logic??

I bought a new new MPC Ren because I have always loved the MPC sequencing and I really can't get with the logic sequencer. I have been producing for years on the MPC.
I have tried in vain to use the MPC REN sequencer as the master to my logic sessions but with no success. Is it even possible? I would be happy with either.....

Logic like most DAW's tend to work better when they are running as the Master. I think the best way to work around your issue is to set logic's internal BPM to the same as your MPC's BPM and have logic act as the transport/master. If you stem out your channels from the mpc into logic individually then you can record audio tracks in real time while doing track mutes, automation, and the like with the mpc. If you have tempo changes programmed in your MPC this becomes tricky because you will have to reprogram those tempo changes in Logic's timeline if you want your MPC to playback correctly.

Would this allow me to use my MPC as the sequencer though? I would like to sequence my drums in the MPC REN and then use the vst sounds in logic like I would have used a midi keyboard in sync back in the days. Would this work?

Yes this will allow you to sequence using the MPC, Logic would only be controlling the transport of itself and the MPC.

I may have had you mistaken earlier but I believe what you are asking is if Logic can act as the host for your audio and vst's while the MPC act's solely as the MIDI sequencer. If this is the case, then yes it is possible. I haven't used the MPC Ren or it's software but I'd imagine you can drag and drop MIDI data from the Ren's software interface onto instrument tracks in Logic and the MIDI data will be transcribed into Logic exactly as it was in the Ren's software.

Another way to do this which might be more direct is to have Logic act as the Master as mentioned before with the MPC Ren acting as a Slave. You can sequence MIDI in the MPC Ren and Logic simultaneously by having Logic recognize the MPC Ren as a MIDI Device and record MIDI to both softwares simultaneously. Since Logic is acting as the Master when you play in Logic the MPC Ren will also play.

I don't know how well the Ren functions without it's software, but if it runs well enough in standalone mode then you can bypass sequencing in the Ren software all together and use the Ren as a MIDI controller for Logic.
