Program Edit Automation Question

I'm trying to automate a parameter in the Program Edit Section (Filter Cutoff). Trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong. Here are my steps.

1. Hit Program Edit.
2. Hit F4
3. Hit Overdub to arm recording
4. Start twisting QLink 14 which is the cutoff
5. Hit stop and playback.

After playback the Filter Cutoff stays the same value even though I changed the values while recording. Can someone let me know what I'm doing wrong.

Here we are in 2017 and this still isn't fixed.

The Ren was my first Akai product and now I know where all the hate comes from.

By all indications within the software it appears that recording filter automation within a program should be allowed, yet it doesn't work. How could something so basic be ignored for so many years?
