Does the MPC REN have this feature?

Hey all, thinking about getting the MPC REN but I want to make sure it has this feature. When the MPC REN is loaded as a plug-in inside Ableton Live, will I be able to record the midi data sequence directly into an Ableton clip from the MPC REN as opposed to the midi data being recorded into the MPC software? I am looking for the feature that Maschine used to have before Maschine 2, which was sounds to midi notes. So the MPC REN stays fully controlling the MPC Software, but when laying down the sequence, the data is recorded into an Ableton clip, not the MPC software. I would really appreciate any feedback anyone has. Thanks!

When i had the MPC 2500 Ableton could also record the midi data from the MPC 2500 sequencer via midi right into an ableton clip. Not using any midi cables now, all USB.

Wondering if it would be possible with Ren/Studio via the use of the audio/midi setup to achieve the same thing? Something to look into trying out.

If you're talking about using the Ren as the controller, it's not possible because the midi is being handled within the MPC software. It can't send midi out of itself just to come back in. A plugin cannot output midi to it's host in this regard. The only way to pull this off would be to run MPC as standalone and connect it to Ableton via physical midi using a separate interface. You could probably pull it off by using a keyboard controller to record the midi in ableton to trigger the MPC software, but you'll be limited to what you can control because the MPC doesn't have multiple midi inputs.

It won't output midi to the host DAW for a drum/plugin track, but you can with a midi track, and you can switch a drum/plugin track to behave as a midi track at any time so you can output your sequences as midi into clips.

in standalone you can also achieve this using a virtual midi cable program, such as loopbe1, no need for physical cables.

yeah no need for a cable, i sequence battery/kontakt in pro tools via mpc software standalone.
If you are on mac set the iac driver bus under midi preferences in osx.
Mpc software preferences, midi out A select iac driver, now open ableton and under iac driver bus input select track,sync, remote.
If you want you can even sync as master the mpc to ableton...

yes, os x includes this capability out of the box, its just windows machines where a virtual midi cable is necessary.

midi controller mode was added two versions ago to achieve this as well... shift + song button

I found that if I connected my mpc studio as well as my ren.. the ren is fully fictional as a vst in cubase 8 pro...the studio displays mpc on the lcd screen but it does control the ren pads(only the pads) and midi can be recorded (16 levels ,chops, all) It's a bit much just to record midi..but it works...while im drum mode (not midi mode)...I couldnt get it to work in midi mode with the ren only...as long as midi has been around one would think this would be easier
