Help with MPC Renaissance and Roland FA-06

Trying to get some insight to a issue im having with my mpc renaissance and Roland fa-06. The problem im experiencing is that I can not hear any midi audio when im using a midi track. I can see the midi data being received but no audio. I have the Roland fa-06 connected to the mpc ren via usb and the ren detects it just fine. The only way I can hear the midi sounds are when I set the roland fa-06 as the audio output and have the studio monitors connected directly to the roland fa-06.

im running osx yosemite 10.10.4 and mpc software 1.8.2


I experience the same issue when I try to use my Avid digi 003 as the audio output and have the studio monitors connected to the main outs on the digi 003.

you know midi is not sound right, just note info? you say midi audio when using a midi track?

Yeah i know midi is not audio,
Just not hearing any sound when using a midi track.

When the MPC triggers audio in an external MIDI device, the audio outputs of that MIDI device must be connected to your amp/speakers, otherwise you'll not hear anything from that MIDI device. Is this the case? It's not clear from your description, but what is your complete system set up regarding audio? Are you using the Ren's built in interface for anything? What device are you setting as the MPC's audio output?

Yes this is exactly what im experiencing.

My set up is pretty basic. Have the mpc ren as main sequencer, have a roland fa-06 and korg triton both connected via usb to mpc. Have a digi 003 that i would like to use as main audio interface for both audio input and output.

So, where are you routing the audio output of the fa-06 to?

Main outs from roland fa to inputs on digi 003. Same for the triton,

Then have the mpc software audio in and output set to avid digi003. With that set up i can only hear mpc plug in expansion sounds.

So no sound from the Triton either? Seems like you're missing some important setting on the digi003, sorry I don't have one so can't help with anything specific to that device.

Yea the triton experiences the same thing. But even if i take the digi 003 out of the scenario and just use the mpc ren as the audio input and output and directly connect my monitors to mpc, i experience the same behavior from the roland and triton.

Really confused at this point.

When connected to the ren, is the the middle knob at the top (mix knob) pointing at 12 o clock to get even balance of computer and input? Then if you just play from the fa 06 you should just hear audio coming from the fa06 passing through the mpc ren's interface. Unless you've turn of local control on the fa06 ?

If that works, then you need to make sure in prefs that the fa06 is both midi in and midi out enabled under midi settings..

Ok direct mon knob is set in the middle. I can hear sounds when track type is plug in and using the 809 plug in, but as soon as i set up track 2 and use track type midi, i select port A which is my fa-06, i hear nothing but can see the midi data as i hit a key.

I do have local switch off on the fa-06 which was instructed by roland support. The midi settings appear to have midi in and out enabled.

If you can help me figure this out im willing to pay you a small fee for your time.

If you plug headphones into the roland, can you hear anything?

does the fa 06 have a sequence/multi timbral mode... (instead of single voice mode/ combo mode ) IF local mode is off, it means that the sequencer(the mpc soft) must return the midi back into the fa06.. but you also must set this in the midi track ie midi channel number, pgm change number and bank number etc...

I believe the fa06 has different modes. Im usually in studio set play and i have been setting up midi track, channel , etc....
