Long time MPCer just got the Ren. First Impreressions

So I have been using hardware mpc's for about 10 years so I was vert skeptical about the Renaisance/Studio.

Decided to give it a shot as I found one used on Ebay for cheap.....

I love this joint!! Akai redeemed themselves with this product. The workflow is classic MPC and even more streamlined in some ways, such as the ability to play your sequences while browsing through samples on your drive , q-link knobs for sample editing and all program parameters and I am just skimmin the surface. I had my computer screen off the whole time and I was working with just the hardware.

IMHO the software/hardware integration is perfect. They pulled it off!

The hardware seems well built too

No im not an AKAI "troll" attempting to spam the forum, just wanted to share my first impressions on this product as I am really happy with it so far and I was not expecting to be

I think you'll be very happy with your purchase, there's not too much missing from the Ren (as far as MPCs go) except system exclusive record/dump. It definitely feels as much of a hardware MPC as the MPC 4000 did, IMO. The Akai guys have really put in some serious work in their updates to make it a great product.

Seems like Akai has been slacking for so long that it's hard to believe they are capable of releasing a solid product. But the software (1.9)/hardware are on point.

I guess someone at the company realized that they had to step it up or lose their relevance forever.

I think its a bummer that they won't do anymore hardware products though but I guess the market is not there for $2K+ machines when you can get the same functionality with software. When MPC's first dropped , they were cutting edge technology and way ahead of everything else but not so much any more.

Anyway, Im happy with it. Its exactly like working on a hardware MPC, but when you are done, you can unplug the controller and have all your work on your computer with easy bouncing down to mp3

lol.. stand-a-lone plus portability, its really a no brainer, i mean, I've got a mpc1000 and a mpc2000xl that collect dust because i prefer the feel and workflow of the 500, pretty crazy
