Has anyone done this;

I'd like to get Logic to Sync to the REN standalone software, so I could track the old fashioned way.

I set Logic to read MTC and set the REN to send it via it's USB port, but nada...

Update;

Got it to work in one direction, i.e., I can get Logic to control my Ren;

Haven't figured out how to get the Ren to control Logic, (in much the same way I was never able to get tight sync with the 3000 controlling Logic).

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Anyone had any luck in getting the DAW to slave to the MPC?

Im with ya!

The plugin sucks so bad that I have been just sending the outs of the ren back into the computer with a separate sound card and back into logic just so I cant avoid using the plug in

The plug in Ren is not doing it for me...

I guess the only way to do this is really old school, i.e., get a MIDI interface and send MTC or SMPTE or something to Logic?

The plugin works just great, it allows the user to do pretty much everything you do in standalone.
Main advantages:
. many separate outputs allowing to mix inside logic
. audio tracks
. In host sequencer, im Logic, configure play/stop buttons to respond to play/stop from the ren/studio
For recording/overdubbing inside mpc, need to set preferences inside the plugin. This specific option seems to be availabe only within the plugin.

Disvantages:
. Not sure if it's a mpc software flaw, but in Logic, if song is playing and i change the playbar position, mcp goes out of sync. Need to stop and play again.
. Logic does not feature count in click when playing. Need hit overdub in mpc, hit record in logic and then play in mpc.

I gotta say im pretty happy with it so far.

Also, another advantage, on the mpc if you hit "other" you can assign any buttons on the mpc for selecting tracks in daw and then play any instruments from the pads loaded in any tracks in the host seq. When you want to go back to mpc mode, just hit preferences displayed inthe "other" window and hit "main", everything from the mpc.

This thread title is exactly what I want to do. My laptop just came in today so I'll find out how this works out in the next couple days. My plan is to send MTC from one of the Ren midi outs into my Pro Tools audio interface working on a separate desktop where my plugins will be triggered.

Hopefully it all syncs especially come time to track out. I am hoping Pro Tools will also acept tempo changes as well but that may be asking too much....

Yes, would love it if it works!

Another thing I was thinking about was slaving the MPC Software to a 3k via an AMT8 or something like that....

You could still use a Ren or Studio as a controller for the software, (Q Links etc) but use the 3k to control all your outboard etc, and have the timing generated from its internal clock...

I wonder if that would work...

You don't need to use MIDI cables, just use virtual MIDI like IAC on the mac (Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Set Up > Window > Show MIDI Window > double click the IAC icon and set it to ‘online’ ).

Once online (I think you might need to reboot) you can assign it in MPC Preferences virtually to MIDI out A. At that point it will act just like a physical MIDI cable. If Logic is set to receive MIDI from the IAC driver it should work.

Similar drivers available for PC.

With the plugin opened, at the top, where all icons for the different windows are displayed (Main, Program Edit, Program Mixer, etc), to the left of Main,(3x3 pads icon) you'll find a new one, that's 4 little stripes and an arrow to the right, that's the icon for the options menu, head to Edit>Preferences... select the Hardware tab and in Record/Overdub change to To MPC Plugin.
Cool

Nice, I thought you couldn't use the overdub button in plug in mode.

Can you make the overdub button control the plugin and the play button control the DAW?

Yes, but then you'll lose the count in click in the mpc. Once you hit play, DAW will start playing immediately.
