MPC Ren Error 0x0006 USB driver installation failed

Hi Forum,

im new to MPCs in general, but produced electronic music for nearly 20 years. Also i would assume that i have a lot of knowledge of computers and electronics in general, because that is my job... But i never had so much troubles with just "plugging in a USB device".

But lets start from the beginning:
I bought a used MPC Ren 5 days ago that is about half a year old. So i have nearly 18 months guarantee left.
First try, i used my companies laptop (Thinkpad Yoga 14, 256GB SSD, 8GB RAM, Windows 8.1 Enterprise 64bit).

Installed the software from the akai website, installed the drivers from the website, everything went fine. I sampled something and got used to chopping and trimming. Only using my 3 samples got boring after an hour, so lets take a look at the plugins (TheWub, TheBank, The809...) that came with the machine.
I had to install all software with my additional administrative user account. I could install, but the MPC Software did not recognize the plugins. No chance.
I tried starting it with the admin user, didn´t work...
So i did the firmware update to 1.10, and i guess it worked (i don´t know how to verify that!?). But that didn´t help bringing the plugins to life.

Ok, lets blame UAC for that. Thats ok for me.

So i brought a clean notebook (Lenovo T430) and installed Windows 7 ultimate 32bit, installed all updates and drivers. I downloaded the MPC Software and the drivers and began to install them. When installing the drivers you are asked to plug the machine in.
So i plugged it in. I had the device manager open, to see what happens. Software ends with an Error 0X0006. In the device manager 3 devices where recognized (2x MPC Renaissance, 1x unknown device) all with that annoiyng yellow exclamation mark.

I tried to install the drivers manually, the inf files are in the depending folders. The device manager told me: Hell yeah thats the right driver buuuuut: Access Denied! WTF? Believe me, i cannot count how many machines i have set up from scratch, how many problems i solved, and now im failing on simply plugging in a USB device. (i know, i often think that baker or butcher would be the better job for me )
I then reinstalled Windows 7 Pro 64bit on the same machine… Guess what? Same issue. I tried the safe mode, i tried disabling Soundcard, Network adapters in the device manager, same issue…
Today i got 2 spare USB cables to exclude that as a problem.

Sorry for that long story, but is someone out there who can give me a hint? For 5 days i have that beast standing on my dining table (my wife goes really mad) and after hours of trying to bring a „simple“ USB device to work, im out of ideas and feel like a total douchebag.
So please, if someone could give me a possible solution that i haven´t thought of, i would reeeeaaally appreciate it.

Have you contacted Akai support? They can usually run through it and I believe can even remotely control things to see what the problem is.

yes, i opened a ticket yesterday. I hope they will reply soon... But as you might guess im really despaired having this hell of a machine in front of me every day but im not able to use it.
So i thought the experts here might have a helping tip for me.

Try calling them, apparently that's the only way you'll get a fast response.

Ok, will do so tomorrow. There is a german support from inMusic GmbH. Hope they can help me... Or do you think i should call the global support number?

I have the same error. When I installed 1.9.2 had some issues and crashes using Windows 7. I thought Uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them would work. It didn't. I did find out the minimum requirements changed to Windows 10. If that is true then I will go back 1.9.1 until 2.0.

1.9.2 works on Windows 7. Mpc Touch no longer works on Windows 7 though.

quick update: i got the initial version 1.2 with the older drivers to work
No problem for 3 hours of messing around with the Ren.
As im new to the mpc, i have a lot to learn and i guess the "limited functions" of the older version will keep me entertained for the next days. So im really happy that the basic functions are working YIIIEEEEHA!

I will try to make an update the next 1 or 2 weeks. If this doesnt work with my setup, i give windows 10 a try. I will keep you up to date.

Thanks for the suggestion and I will try that now. Fingers crossed because this is the first issue I've had with an update.

I tried it and the drivers loaded without an error, but the screen would not launch on the Renaissance (just showed MPC). I down graded to 1.9.0 and installed the 1.8 drivers then to 1.9.1 and 1.9.2. No, issues now thank you again.

Tip always Uninstalling driver after a failed attempt to install.

Hi all,

finally, i got it to work yesterday.
I did an update to windows 10, same error at first.
So i made a complete reset of windows 10, installed the initial version 1.2. This always worked for me.
Then i did the firmware update (never knew whether the first update worked), checked for updates in the software and installed version 1.9.2. This worked out, usb drivers are installed properly and the software is working.
So i wrote akai to give me some more unlocks, i had too much installs the last 10 days...
They replied quick and after writing this, i will give it a shot. Im confident that this will work.
