So we know MPC Software 2.0 is to include audio tracks, but I'm wondering exactly what people are truly expecting from this feature? Are people hoping it's going to completely do away with the need for a separate DAW? Or is it just a band aid to provide a more bare bones audio track option, similar to 'direct recording' found in the MPC2500?

What features are a 'must have' for the audio track update?

Main feature I will use is realtime time stretching. This will make me retire Reason 8 if the akai version processes quickly.

Second thing I will test is doing basic audio vocal recording in the same session as the actual beat. I don't know if we are getting track comping, fades, and other daw editing tools. If we do I can do the bulk of the work in mpc 2.0 and dump it out to pro tools for finer fx processing.

Third the ableton style clip launching if it works properly will be a huge plus as a live performer.

Personally I don't feel the MPC should be a DAW, there's plenty of DAWs on the market already. I've seen this before when a product tries to please everyone it doesn't usually meet the expectations. It's an MPC so it should stay MPC, but with that it doesn't mean it should contain some of DAW like features, which it already does.

I think proper real-time-stretching would be in order in the 2.0 update, especially if audio tracks is being introduced.
Give the MPC the ability to build your own devices for use within the MPC . Create custom synthesizers, samplers, sequencers, audio effects similar to what Max does in ableton live.

Let's keep this topic specifically on the subject of audio tracks - they are coming, that's no longer a debatable issue, but what features will Akai need to implement to keep everyone happy, especially considering this is to be a paid upgrade.

I know from previous discussions that many insisted they only wanted very 'basic' audio track implementation (whatever 'basic' means), but I'm not convinced that people will be happy to accept that in the long run, as there's always 'just one more feature that needs to be added, just so I no longer need to use ...(insert favourite DAW name here)...'

This is something I've previously mentioned myself....and was going to repeat in this thread again but given the MPC will have real real time stretching and it can be applied per sample instead of per program. Then you can build a program with loops, which essentially be would the same function as audio clips like in ableton

yo,
ok Just to make it clear i m not on the MPC DAW team =)

But! to do quick instrument recordings in the production process and throw an acapella on the beat,
i m on it.
For pro vocal recording, editing and mixing,.., i think the tools are already there (cubase for me) and it would take moooooore than one major update to get all this DAW features well implemented into the MPC Software, realise that.

Also the plugin latency for me is a creativity killer when you lay down your midi tracks.
so i use insert plugins mostly after l lay down the midi but then you are running into the next problem:
The track is getting shifted against all other tracks because of the latency...
Then latency compensation could be the solver but... when you like to lay down the next midi track
all your pads have the latency on it. Because of that i almost always use insert plugins only after laying down all my midi-tracks.

This shit just cant go together mathematicly and i m getting crazy when i start to shift whole tracks to get the timing right. just hate it.

I think the described problems can only be solved with zero - latency plugins (they are there for some years now but expensive..).
So it is not a wrong designed MPC software. More that the plugin latency fits not into the concept.

Features:

- basic tools like cut/copy/paste with Grid (quantize) on / off

- "pushing blocks" and when you click into a blog = sample edit

- duplicate whole audio tracks (like copy a normal mpc track)

- Plugin Compensation with mode on / off
(remember if switched on --> with 1 insert plugin somewhere in the project, every pad you hit on every track is getting latency...)

- for me realtime time / pitch should be implemented for every single pad / chop (like editing single zones in NI Kontakt but in the program edit page :)) Sure it would be also nice in the new "audio track editor..."

- automation ...

- stereo AND MONO tracks ( i hate that all my mono single drum tracks are stereo in the MPC Mixer...)

Hi,
I would expect just some core functionality to be able to record a vocal, a bass or guitar track. Probably it would be cool to do live records of the band/the act while playing live.
The MPC is an Instrument - that is what the Software have to cover. The track record function is like the possibility to do some basic recording with cheap digital synth - nice to have, but not a DAW-replacement.

I hope real time stretching works like that in studio one, simple and effective.

Everything that acid 3.0 did with audio files MPC 2.0 should be able to do. Drawing lines, cross fades, volume adjust. All these basic things I'm clamoring hard for.

I know there is video in that pic , just ignore that.

1) The ability to freeze tracks because the vsts that I use to procces my vocals put a heavy burden on the system :worthy:

2) A smoother workflow for automation. As it is now I cant draw an diagonal line. Right now its a mess. :Sigh:
