Hello, new member been using my MPC 1000 for years. Just got a used Renaissance. I registered it on akais website. Followed the setup guide to a t, when it got to unlcoking the software I realised the ren isnt beinf recognized by my iMac. I checked in the system report and I dont think it's showing.

I deleted/uninstalled everything, and started over. Same issue. The firmware updater doesn't recognize the ren either.

The only thing I can think of is the USB cable being bad. It IS old as dirt, possibly not a 2.0 cable. I'm going to get a new one here shortly. In the mean time any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks. :smoker:

TL;DR
Got a used Ren, wont connect, tried reinstall same thing. Could the cable be bad. Does the ren need a usb 2.0 cable?

Just in case anyone searches the subject in the future it was indeed the USB cable. Dug through my box of spaghetti and found a newer one and viola! Works like a charm. Liking the Ren so far.

After I got it working and played with it for a minute I decided I needed to upgrade the firmware. I kept getting various errors including "unknown error" and finally realized... durrr it's used it probably updated. Sure enough, current firware. Lol

Anyways, I'm definitely enjoying it. Coming from the MPC 1k I can't tell you how awesome it is to have things like the numeric keypad and the +/- buttons under the jog wheel.

Having it tethered to a computer is not bad either. I was able to do what I used to without referencing the computer screen. Yet, saving/naming and other things are SO much easier in the software.

One of the coolest things I never seen mentioned before getting a Ren is the fact I have an UNDO button. Wooooow. Can't tell you how many times I wish I had one of those while composing an instrumental. Talk about a time saver.

Okay I'm done rambling probably gonna put my thoughts in a new post. "The Ren coming from a 1k user" lol.

Your MPC1000 also had an UNDO button (labelled UNDO SEQ).

Doesn't it undo more than just the previous adjustment made ? I'm pretty sure it doesn't function the same, maybe. I dunno. I do know my 1k was said to have major issues according to MPCstuff.com when I tried to trade it in. Maybe the problem lol.
