MPC 2.0 Upgrade Price

I'm thinking getting the MPC Studio Black today, now I don't know if I should wait until the 2.0 comes out. Did any of you guys heard any information about the price or will there free for the new buyers.

No. there is absolutely zero information about 2.0 pricing, release date or specs.Akai have said nothing for 7 months now.

Thanks for your reply, I'll wait for the update before buying. Ableton 9.7 is looking better and better.

My only beef w/ Ableton is the BS cobbled intro version they give you when you buy their premium hardware. You should get the standard version if u buy a Push 2. Period.

Well you could be waiting a long time, it doesn't seem too much of a stretch to imagine it being released in 2017. You should also consider the possibility that when it is released, the MPC Studio itself might have seen an overall price rise (to make existing owners feel better about paying the 2.0 upgrade fee).

Personally I don't recommend waiting for unknowns like this. If you want an MPC Studio just grab one and start making music. Anyway, if you buy Ableton 9.7 at some point in the future you'll have to pay an upgrade fee for Ableton 10 - why not wait until 10.0 comes out so you get the upgrade 'for free'? Or maybe just sit back and wait for Ableton 11, you'll save yourself a tonne of cash in upgrade fees The fact is at some point you're always going to face upgrade fees.

i already have Ableton 9 Suite with the Push II, I just wanted the MPC Studio in Black..... Looks great, but I don't like the fact that Akai is making people pay for a update. I feel they should've wait to bring out the MPC Touch and Black Studio with the 2.0, I'll apply my $399 toward Ableton 10 upgrade, I have the Renaissance anyway.

A paid upgrade was inevitable and it's always going to upset some people more than others. Most companies charge for major version upgrades, and I don't think Akai can rely entirely on people just continually purchasing new controllers, they'll want to monetize the people who are happy to stick with their older generation hardware.

If the upgrade is truly a good major version upgrade (rather than just an update) at a fair price then I don't think there'll be too many grumbles. However 1.9.6 is still buggy, still crashes and is still missing promised features (e.g. Q Link edit on the Touch), so I do feel Akai should still address these issues for the 1.9.x series, and if that means continuing to push out updates for 1.9.x even after 2.0 is released, so be it.

I've been playing with the Push 2 and MPC Touch. Sweet combination.

Paid upgrade, and Dan said there will be a grace period for recent buyers.

You know how much Ableton charge for big updates??? And you are crying because akai charge for 2.0 upadates

You are going to get complaints no matter what. I hope tutor can make a separate thread to discuss the upgrade price.

It isn't fair to compare Ableton in general to any version of the MPC software.

With all due respect I have to disagree with this; Dan clearly stated 2.0 is coming this year; so there is no reason for you to suggest otherwise; unless you can point to where they have said it is coming in 2017?

Also we know that new product announcement are typical made in the fall so any time between now and the beginning of November is peak time for new products to be announced.

Correct me If I am wrong but the Touch was announced in autumn of last year?

so to paint the situation as an a complete unknown is misleading.

Yeah I think the Touch was announced around this point and released in November.
