Best way to chop my break collection into programs?

Best way to chop my break collection into programs?

So I have a decent collection of breaks, & I was wondering what would be the easiest/most efficient way to chop them into programs separated into types (BD, SD, HH, etc.)? I'd like to do several at a sitting, but any tips would be appreciated. Everything I've tried so far seems kinda clunky.

Also, in the future I may want to create cycle kits, but for now I'd just like to have any insight into some of your methods. Thank you!

EDIT: I do understand the basics of chopping, I'm looking for a good method to do so to my entire break collection. So far it seems fastest to just use Sound Forge...but surely there is a better way.

Chopping breaks into programs is extremely easy with the mpc software. The problem would be placing them into seperate types like you mentioned. Soundforge type editors may be your only option. Actually I think the destructive chopping in the mpc software creates separate wave files for each chop. You would then have to go back and create the program by adding each sample.

Right. I had been chopping say 1-3 per song, Couldn't be easier. I started a project and chopped about 10, then I had a huge list of chops. 1st I created a program for Kicks, then went through the list. Then I made a program for snares, and about halfway through the list I figured I'd ask, in case there was a better way.

CKRename

...a batch file renaming tool that lets you change the name of multiple files at the same time based on user-defined rules.

The interface is very clean and well-organized, which makes the whole application very easy to use, so the whole renaming process shouldn't take more than a minute.

With a multi-panel look that lets you browse local folders, view the existing file names and preview the new file name, CKRename is aimed at beginners and more advanced users alike, with multiple options to configure renaming.

For example, you can change file name and insert before or after the initial name tag a special character, of even auto number the files, change or remove extension. Obviously, you can change the case as well, with multiple options such as upper, lower and first or set up string substitution to replace a given character automatically.

One of the good things about CKRename is the fact that the file name preview window works in real-time, which means you can see the new file names as you set up new rules in the bottom of the main window.

The program can also save the settings before exiting, so the next time you launch it you can use the same renaming options for a new batch of files.

The file renaming process takes just a few seconds and everything works quite smooth, no matter the Windows version you are using.

All in all, CKRename is indeed a very handy software solution and with a few improvements here and there it could easily become a top product when it comes to renaming multiple files on the go.

Awesome, thanks guys. I had no idea you could chop in Reaper. I may give recycle another go. I'll check out CKRename too.
After stewing on this, I realized that what I'm wishing for is something that can do a chop by threshold (I know Recycle can), but then be able to drag one slice at a time to individual folders, or even individual programs, while they're all displayed. You know, so I could go slice-by-slice & drag one to BD, next to HH, next to SD etc. I tried to set this up with programs in the MPC software but no luck yet. Time to Google "chopping in Reaper." Thanks again.

All doable with REAPER! Make sure to hold down Ctrl+Alt while dragging an item from the timeline to the windows explorer.

And don´t forget that REAPER is highly customizable, so you can tailor it exactly to your needs!
