Bug reports & end-user support for Akai's MPC Software 'controllers' including the new MPC Studio 2, the MPC Touch, MPC Renaissance & original MPC Studio and MPC StudioB lack.

and this stuff doesn't work. OS X Sierra has been out for 4 months now and the Renaissance still isn't updated? This is totally uncool .. when I bought it it didn't work, now down the line with a new computer it still doesn't work

honestly baffled right now and eagerly searching around for a better company than AKAI for my controller. Anyone wanna buy this useless renaissance?

I agree, Sierra was released to developers 6 months ago, so Akai should have been on this within a few weeks. However as you say, 'when you bought it it didn't work', so you should have checked this before buying the Ren.

But you do have options, albeit a PITA - you could install El Capitan on a USB 3 drive (SSD if possible) and boot from this to run your Ren - just hold down 'ALT' (option) when you switch on your Mac, or go to 'System Preferences > Start Up Disk' and set the USB3 disk as the default boot disk (then reboot). I currently boot my Mac Mini from an external USB3 caddy running an SSD and have no problems.

If you don't like the idea of booting into different disks all the time you could set up all your other apps on this new boot disk, make sure everything is working fine and then use carbon copy cloner to copy the usb disk over your main boot drive.

It's not just uncool, it's completely amateurish. :Sigh:

I would have the opposite problem with Mavericks support being dropped within a few updates.

First of all, thank you both for responding. I was pretty upset last night when I made this thread, so I appreciate any help you're sending my way.

However

I don't think I can install El Capitan on this MacBook, as it shipped with Sierra (late 2016 MBP)

I was looking into buying an audio interface to use instead. Will I have luck with this method?

Anyone have luck setting up the renaissance on Sierra with an extra audio interface on the side?

I'm thinking it's either this or I put together the beats with windows and export them I i logic somehow..

Any help is greatly appreciated!

As long as it's compatible with Sierra, you should be fine. Only the audio interface doesn't work, the controller at least works as normal. If you've got a friend, try to borrow it off him. If it's a temporary solution, you could use the internal output instead, although you'll dearly miss the inputs.

I'd suggest getting a Behringer interface for the time being, still a good mobile solution. These two can fit most of your inputty needs. :-D

Behringer UCA 222 (line in, up to 48 kHz)
Behringer UFO 202 (phono in, up to 48 kHz)

you need to do what tutor suggested. back down a version of os. you Can do this he gave you a complete walk through. many of us have made the mistake of updating the os before gear is ready. so we all had to back down a version until alai came threw. prob just making the sierras wait till 2.0

Unfortunately he cannot. Apple doesn't allow downgrading under the version you buy your Mac with anymore...

Which means, any Mac bought with Sierra cannot use the renaissance! :fku:

Hopefully Akai will get their shit together and upgrade the driver in the next days... :Sigh:
