Bug reports & end-user support for Akai's MPC Software 'controllers' including the new MPC Studio 2, the MPC Touch, MPC Renaissance & original MPC Studio and MPC StudioB lack.

Hi guys,
Newbie here.
I recently purchased an MPC Renaissance, and I’ve been very slowly trying to learn.

I suddenly had a panic attack about picking this particular model though.

It seems that the Renaissance can only be used when the software is opened, which is causing me a bit of paranoia for the future.

For example, what happens in 10 or 20 years from now when we still own this kit.

Are Akai really going to keep releasing software updates for a discontinued product forever....

Should I jump ship now and get a different mpc or pray that Akai eventually give us some kind of unlock which will allow it to be used standalone?

Thanks!

There is absolutely no chance that the Ren can ever be standalone, it doesn't have the require internal electronics or hardware. The MPC Software is clearly being optimised for touchscreen MPCs rather than the tiny bluescreen UI, you'll see less and less features even available in the Ren UI as time moves on, and more bugs and glitches appear as Akai are clearly not going to spend time testing for discontinued hardware (which is fair enough IMO). MPC 1.9 will eventually no longer work in future Windows/Mac OS.

Unfortunately these are not classic MPCs, they are not built to last 20 or even 10 years. Enjoy it, and when it's time to move on, buy a newer model. But if you want standalone, look at the Live or X.

You should've done your research before buying the Ren bro

Don’t get rid of it out of paranoia of not being able to use it in the future. There’s people that are still rocking with samplers from the early 80s. If you’re in love with your ten just know that you’ll have to keep a computer from this era in good condition to be able to use it. Simple as that. eBay will always be around to buy retro computer parts. Don’t let a OS update ace you out of your fav gear. On the other hand if you don’t particularly care for the ren in the first place then that’s different maybe consider swapping it or selling before it becomes a thing of the past. As a matter of fact if you do end up getting rid of it hit me up maybe we can work something out.

MPC Ren is a controller that needed to be tethered to a computer.
It was never meant to be stand alone.
