MPC to Logic X

Hi,
Before telling me to read the manual, I want to make clear that I have numerous times. I am trying to connect my mpc to logic to use as a midi controller for logic instruments. I have followed instructions in the mpc to set sync out to a and connected the midi output accordingly. For my midi keyboard, Logic automatically detects it. When I plug in the MPC this doesn't happen. I have looked at countless videos and forums but have yet to find the answer to this seemingly simple task. I have the free version of JJOS. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If you want to simply send MIDI note on/off messages, from the MPC pads, to trigger Logic instruments, you do not need sync.

Sync is required to synchronise the timing of one sequencer to another sequencer. This would be used if you want to press play on the MPC sequencer, and have the Logic sequencer play along in time.

Is that what you want, do you really want to sync the two sequencers, or are you just wanting to play Logic instruments using the MPC pads, and record that playing into the Logic sequencer?

Hi, thanks for the reply. Yes, I do not want to use the mpc sequencer and instead just want to send the midi signals to play logic sounds with the mpc.

I never really use my OS X, but like Simon said you can skip all the MIDI sync/MTC stuff. You just need to set your MPC PGM to send MIDI Out and then set it up the same as any other MIDI controller. I'm sure it's in the manual. Would be the same as setting up a USB MIDI controller just use one standard MIDI cable instead of USB. If Logic isn't sending MIDI to the MPC the one cable will suffice.

Set the active track on the MPC from DRUM to MIDI, and set the MIDI output channel/port to 1A (if you have connected MPC MIDI output A to your computer MIDI input), hit the pads, they should work.

You should see the incoming MIDI note on/off messages, into Logic, on the Logic transport bar (assuming that it displays it there in the same way as it does in Logic 9), if it is connected and working properly.

I know nothing about Logic. But I'm preparing to take the plunge very soon. I also noticed that theres a new MPC & Logic Pro tutorial, which I see will be useful to me. So I'd recommend it here as well.
