could be a good contender for the axiom 25...

i'm lookin to replace my oxygen 8 with another 25 key controller (25 keys is all i need plus i keep all my equipment on one console so space is tight) i was gonna go for a novation remote 25sl but this new product from akai has got me intrigued...

I like this lil f*cker for home use. Its big brother is nice but I dont really have space at home so this would be a good option

My advice to those who already have a MPC is stick w/ the Axiom 25 . The keys murder the MPK series . And I'd rather have 8 nice sized pads then 12 chiclets .

Yep. If I ever had problems with my PCR-M30 this would probably be the next midi controller I'd buy.....it would be nice to get a full 16 pads though. I like the Mod and Pitch wheels on this.

i have the remote zero sl but i tried the remote 25 sl.
i must say that the keys on the novation are very good, semiweighted with good mechanical build.
and also , the automap universal is THE sh!t !!! i almost never have to assign stuff no more!
only bad point: the pads are crap compared to the newer mpd's

I don't like how the pads are 3x4. I would have issues with that. It would have to be 4x3 for me (and makes more since space wise). I'm also not a fan of the keys on the mpk49. I would personally still choose and axiom.

Well they now have the axiom 61 PRO... I assume they put full weighted keys on that... but I have never tried one so... I saw it in a namm video.


I have an axiom49 and I dont have any complaints... the pads are not too bad, but not as good as some of the older akai pads. Just different I guess.

What I do like is how the axiom series is super easy and trouble free to set up to the DAW's... where as the MPK apparently has issues setting up the tap tempo and note repeat...

i dont own an mpk but tried one out at the store and the pads are complete shit. when they say mpc-like pads, its really misleading. it only 'looks' like mpc pads, but the pads themselves are no way near the league of regular mpc pads.

lets be honest here homies...

i have my mpc if i want to be bangin out kicks and snares and choppin samples, i think this would be a good controller on account of its small size, nice big screen, decent keys and pleny of knobs, those pads wouldn't be my main reason for buyin it. the most one would probably do with them is trigger loops and/or effects and shyt, for which i'm sure they would even do the job for that.

no doubt, the remote 25sl and the axiom are good contenders though. i've also heard that korg are bringing out a new 25 key controller, so i will be interested to see what that will be like.

I must say you are a complete idiot. "the axiom keys murder the mpk"?!?!?!?!?! are you kidding me.

I own a axiom 49, and this thing is such a POS, they keys are soft, to even call it semi weighted is ridiculous. and pads are useless for triggering anything, a piano key does the same thing. even a typing keyboard has the same functionality.

I briefly touched the keys of a mpk25 and man were those things stiff as hell (once again you are an idiot w. steele for even saying that the axiom keys are good at all, an idiot). perfect, but does anyone know how it plays.

I am stuck in between the novation remote 25 sl and the mpk25. all I am really looking for is the action of they keys (nobody tell me the axiom is good because it isn't) and how well it midi's up with vsts.

automap looks very attractive but are the mpk25 presets any good with vsts?

I was sold on the novation until I read the keys on the mpk are unbeatable, but I need a second opinion so see if longer setup is worth it for the keys.

that mpc swing looks cool for instant feel. and the note repeat could be useful, but all I really care is about how close it is to imitating a real piano. so any keyboardist who have tried this thing please let me know.

first, please try to be polite.
second, any semiweighted keyboard is unlikely to resemble a real piano. for that you need full weighted keys.

12 small pads < 8 full pads

i wouldn't buy one of these just based on all the pics i've seen of mpk 49s with broken keys... akai isn't what it used to be in terms of quality... don't say you haven't been warned.
