um....ableton live 5 does this.........hence why i rock my laptop and the xstation(audio interface) in the school library and dig for samples in our wonderful vinyl library(they got jazz records like whoa).....; chop using live and drop the drums in the impulse section and make instruments using the simpler. Did i mention you can also stretch i in there....hence why i dropped my mpc 1000.

but i preordered my mpd 24 at novamusik.com and they said sometime around june. crossing fingers. but if i have to wait as long as august, i might as well drop some dough on their cme uf5 controller.

is it true that this controller (mpd24) is almost as big as thee 2000xl?

i knew ableton could do this, but how quick is it to do? like can you record a sample and immediately drop it onto a 'pad' of the impulse? i guess i should fire up the demo again, i haven't rocked that shit in a while due to me being too tight to buy it! (though it's at the top of my list!) cheers for the info dude.

^ You be surpized how fast you can chop up samples and streach them.. Live is just too good..

I use Battery instead of impulse.. (It has more banks, theres also a sh*t load of editing features..)

I still use my MPC for drums though..

your the second person up in here who has recently said ableton is good for chopping samples. how so? am i missing something?

..or are you just talking about adjusting start/end points of samples? :?

i have been playing with ableton again and have realized that you can't chop drums, but you can set the start and eend points for either looping or making an instrumen using simpler.....i guess i was chopping on adobe audition and i didnt even realise it. my bad. there has to be another way around this......

oh and if you get live and you know someone who is a student, you cn get the full version dropped down to 235 with certain etailers.

man,i am still excited about getting the mpd 24...those endless rotary encoders help in the long run.
