Akai mpc fly app?

I'm new and not sure if this goes here so sorry if I posted in the wrong place.

I was wondering if anyone knows if the app or program that is used with the mpc fly will be released on its own? Or do you need to purchase the fly to get the app/ program? Thanks

Yes I believe it can be used standalone, I don't really see how they could stop that even if they wanted to, I don't think hardware 'dongles' are even an option in the iOS SDK.

Yes it's going be sold separately from the hardware, but no one has confirmed a totally standalone Core MIDI capable version.(that you could control over MIDI even with no Fly hardware.)

On a Facebook conversation over the summer a representative of Retronyms (MPC Fly's coders) implied that the Fly app may only accept MIDI from the Fly. Ironic as the Fly hardware has been stated to control any Core MIDI app.

I'm inclined to believe what he implied as Tabletop (Retronyms' signature iOS studio app) will have the MPC Fly as an in app purchase and Tabletop doesn't support Core MIDI. He told me unequivocally that Tabletop will not add Core MIDI.

The Core MIDI functionality of the Fly hardware might make me interested in one, but again totally bizarre if the app itself won't have Core MIDI.

Basically I just wish the Studio would drop soon and then we can get more info on the Fly and it's particulars.

Thanks everyone. I guess I don't know as much as I thought because I'm a bit confused now. When I think midi I think of signals being sent ( keyboard) Obviously I am wrong about this. I thought that even with the fly hardware I would just have to track and level through the program and then record through the headphone jack.

Please help me understand the advantage of it having midi on the unit. Thanks.

If they wait much longer they will be two iPad generations behind of when they originally announced...lol.

True, but fortunately most iPad 2 cases and covers fit iPad HD and iPad 4

It's going to allow you to use the pads for any Core MIDI enabled app which is the majority of music apps that are out now. Main upside is the pads are velocity sensitive for more expressive/varied playing.

A couple apps let you go higher/lower on hitting the pad/keys graphics, but it would be cool to have 16 pads with velocity sensitivity built into a iPad case.
