mpd32 slider problems

the f1 and f8 sliders are giving me mega problems. the f1 gives me a max value of 007 on the display. the f8 gives me a max value of 67 but also instead of ctrl 019, it jumps to 012. this is really weird. i tried resetting to the factory settings and still the same results. do i need to replace the faders?

I never had that with mine. It does sound like dead or dying faders. Have you already blown them out with an air can? And when you reset the factory setting did you re-flash the firmware? I might make sure to do that to try pinpoint if the issue is the internal MIDI data operations of the MPD or a mechanical issue.

Do you have the Vyzex MPD32 editor installed? At the top toolbar of the program is a selection labeled Manuals. One of the choices is a color PDF that shows the firmware steps.

It may not help but at least you'd know you wiped the firmware (the internal software of the MPD really) and have a fresh install that should be error free. Then if it still does it it's probably mechanical. Have you had it for a long time and do you use the faders a lot? Mine have been OK but I don't do a lot of MPC style NV slider stuff on them where I'd rock them up and down a lot more like a DJ fader, I use the knobs more.

i upgraded the firmware maybe a year ago to 1.03. i really don't use the faders at all, just bangin' out the pads. i'm trying to find the firmware link to try it again. akai doesn't have it on the webpage.

Yeah 1.03 is the last one they did. I just can't think of another way to test that the internal MIDI data workings of the unit are on point. What you described could be that just as easily as a mechanical issue. Especially if they saw little to use as opposed to getting rocked up and down daily. But they never saw that much action so I don't know.

Yeah I didn't see a firmware download either. But if you look in the firmware pdf it says how to toggle the MPD32 into erase mode and then fire up the Vyzex app, then the Vyzex handles the downloading of the firmware file and it's application to the MPD32.

One other thing, is this on all your software or just a certain host or instrument? I'm trying to think of any possible host related MIDI problems that would cause the strange fader behavior. Because like you said you didn't go all crazy on them with wear and tear, so I'm trying to think what else could cause that.
