Support and chat about Akai's range of MIDI controllers, including the MPD. MPK and LPD

I just got a second hand mpx8 with the midi adaptors missing and of course you can not buy them except at mpc stuff which given i am in the uk costs so much i went and bought a new unit as well as i have plans for both.
Following a suggestion i saw elsewhere i connected the midi out of one to the midi
in of another using just a minijack cable and it works fine.
You may not find this interesting as such but it may come in handy if you have multiple same brand devices with the dreaded minijacks.,
As that was not my main use idea i plan to use both the cables i now have as ins for number 1 and 2 unit respectively and only ever usb for midi out.
I am sure someone can tell us in case soldering a cable becomes necessary but it seems the pin wiring is likely to pin 4 and 5 as 2 is ground and 1 and 3 seems to be used in audio over din meaning the cables you can buy on Amazon do NOT work
as replacements if you lose Akai ones.
I did experiment with an arturia minijack to midi on my mpx 8 and it worked to a degree but did funny things as well.
I do not like these things as once the midi cable is in there is a dangly factor and my arturia one has a habit of dropping out without too much provication,
I am now planning to play my first mpx8 using a midi foot controller with the midi notes mapped to the white (ie grey plastic keys) and with all the digital redux planet drum machine samples converted which i reckon will require a library of
8 or so sd cards which will be mainly full of space.
