just sent this request to JJ. lets hope he can do it!
the new PATTERN feature is very powerful.
it is good to assign patterns to pads, and to play the patterns set to LOOP.
1 pad hit plays the pattern in a loop, the next hit stops the pattern.
many different patterns can be played at the same time.
a problem is, with 64 pads available, it gets very difficult to remember which pad is currently playing.
which is looping? which is stopped? how are all the pads currently assigned? it is impossible to remember the status of all 64 pads.
is it a sample? pattern? midi cc? program change?
so, i request a new screen: PAD STATUS SCREEN.
this screen will show the current assignment of all pads.
it will also show if the pattern assigned to the pad is playing or not.
it is a screen similar to the TRACK MUTE screen.
example of how it could work:
1. press the NEXT SEQ key to get to NEXT SEQ screen.
2. press the F2 button to get to the PAD STATUS screen (PadStat).
3. the screen now shows the status of the 16 pads (change the pad banks to view the status of all 64 pads).
4. eliminate the space at left of screen (that shows "SQ 1-16, BANK A) to give more space.
5. use small font to show more info.
6. each cell will show:
for sample: the sample name.
for pattern: PATTERN NAME, TRACK, +0, LOOP, ONE, or SOLO (L,1,S).
for midi cc : the CC# & value.
for program change: program change #.
for pattern, if a pattern is currently playing, the background will be black.
if a pattern is not playing, the background will be white.
if a pattern is looping, the background will stay black until the pad is hit again to stop the loop.
the currently selected pad will have a solid border (like the TRACK MUTE screen)
F3 will be an ACTIVE PAD feature (Act Pad). hold it & press the pad to make it active (just like the "Act Trk" tab in the TRACK MUTE screen).
***now, when a pad is active (solid border), you can use the cursor keys to edit it !!
EXAMPLE: if PAD 1 is set to midi CC, make pad 1 active and then press the left or right cursor to select the CC# (it will start to blink), then rotate the data wheel to change the value. press 'Act Pad' again to save the change.
EXAMPLE: if PAD 2 is set to pattern, make pad 2 active and then press the left or right cursor to select the pattern name, track, shift value, etc... when a value is selected, it will blink. then a value can be changed with a data wheel.
press 'Act Pad' again to save the change (the value stops blinking).
this new feature will make it much easier to see immediately how all the pads are set.
it makes it much easier and faster to change their setting.
it makes it possible to see which pad patterns are currently playing.
this new feature will be great for live performance, to see what a pad is set to before you hit it.
please note: it will be necessary for patterns to work while in this screen, so that they can be triggered on/off !
currently, this is possible only in the MAIN screen.
