[request] Patterns not limited to 4 beats .. (i.e. 4/4)

so, we only have 4 beat patterns, even if you make a pattern from a 6 (or whatever length) beat bar. Would be cool to have that limitation removed.

p.s. had to correct this. I meant 4/4 time signature limitation.

Damn, I just noticed this. I thought you could do polyrhythms with this thing. Kind of a bummer.

Well there is a workaround:

e.g. you want to have a 3/4 pattern.

So 3 x 4 = 12 quarter notes. You create a 3 bar (4/4) sequence.

On every third beat you record your note.

If you wanna make a 5/4 pattern. Same method. 5x4=20 quarter notes, which in 4/4 is 5 bars. So you create a 5 bar sequence in 4/4 and record the note/s on every 5th beat.

You can change time signature.

AKAI OS can do that too, as far as I remember.

We're talking about the 4/4 limitation of patterns, not the time signature of a sequence.

My bad. Can't you just convert a odd time signature sequence to pattern?

Nope, that's what we're saying. Even if you make a sequence that's in 3/8 or 5/16, etc., when you convert it to a pattern it will round up to the nearest length of 4/4 bars.

I thought of this too. What a pain in the ass though!

just make a template and reuse it.

That's a thought.

Hmm, I'm thinking the Arpeggiator might come in handy for this workaround. You could just set up an arp and hold it for a number of bars that's a multiple of the length you want. Then you could transpose or delete the pad events to create the sequence you want.

That said I haven't used the arp before and it might not work how I want...

man i confused as to what you mean, you want a sequence 5/4 in length or you want the click track at 5/4?

Cos sequence you CAN do but click track you can only go to triplets.

man i had a sample the other day and i was trying to chop it, became aware it was 5/4 timing, so i got it looped on a 5/4 timing sig but then when i went to lay drums it became a nightmare and im pretty certain it was cos of the above.

e.g. You have a 1-Bar sequence in 5/4, so that's 5 quarter notes a bar:

1...2...3...4...5... Now, let's say you have a kick hit (K) on the first beat:

K...2...3...4...5...

If you want to make a pattern like that you'll have to convert this to 4/4:

K...2...3...4...1...K...3...4...1...2...K...4...1...2...3...K...1...2...3...4...

so we have a 5 bar pattern in 4/4, but it will sound like 5/4 when you convert it to a pattern.

with the tempo of said sample, and the space this method gives your drums over a 5 bar loop, did not work well
