Not that I think it will happen, but it'd be awesome to get a compiler and libs and start an open-source development project to implement all these features that people want...

hell no.

don´t give nukai any source code. they are thieves without ethics.

if you have a specific feature request drop jj an email...

Does JJOS have a similar structure as windows? Does it use dll's?

If so, maybe JJ could release the source code for the effects section.

I don't mind if jj keeps his source private. I'd rather work on something a bit different anyway. But to do any development one needs a compiler, libs and a ton of documentation, and probably some code to see how it all fits together. This would not necessarily become a competitor to jj, maybe an alternative. Maybe volunteers could work under/with jj on something? I dunno, I am just trying to get the ball rolling a little. There is no shortage of enthusiastic people willing to do some coding on the machine, and it seems a shame just to ignore all that.

In case you haven't noticed, there is about 40 man-years of programming requests already posted in this forum since it was created a few weeks ago. I doubt sending jj a mail is going to make much of a difference to his output rate.

JJ is making a good bit of cash off JJOS. It's probably some of the highest priced firmware I've ever seen in my life. But it's priced that way because there is no other option really. For business reasons, JJ would be pretty shortsighted to release it as open source.

That said, if he release JJOS FREE as open source that would be pretty incredible and unlikely to hurt his sales. The level of development in 2XL appears to be pretty insane and he definitely deserves the cash from that. (Maybe not $120 a pop, but it is what it is.)

For me personally all I really want is quick padswapping, round robin pads, stereo chopping, and 16 chop auditioning in the chop screen. Those four things I would be willing to work on myself given the source code and to release it for the world... that's the whole point of open source too though. Also I think most of these things are in 2XL but I really dont require anything else. So if I only want 5% of 2XL should I be able to spend $6 on it? Haha, I wish.

That would also save him from having to sift through all the very personal feature requests.

i would happily pay for an sdk, and also pay for consultancy work when my code doesn't work. I can't imagine that homemade stuff can compete with jj's os considering the time he has had to work on it. I am mostly just raising the point that there may be a business model there somewhere that's worth investigating. for example, if I got the tools to do it, I would be happy to work (for free) on jjos and give the code to jj for him to sell in the next os. Personally I'd aim at a little live looper machine if that's possible. maybe its all brutally hard handwritten assembler, who knows...
