Submit bug reports and feature requests for the JJOS-XL and 2XL

I've requested this before, but I am requesting it again because it is a crime that this is not implemented.

In the midi cc editor, please please please add a function so that when I turn a knob on my synth (sending midi cc to the mpc) that it jumps to displaying that CC. Maybe even hold down an mpc button called FIND, or put the cursor on the cc: value field..

Right now I have a printed chart on my wall with my synths MIDI implementation and I have to squint at that every time I want to find something, and then scroll through loads of numbers just to get to it.

Can someone please inform JJ of this? I can't image it's difficult to do, and it would be bloody AWESOME.

Is the midi monitor not good enough?? Does me fine, and in case any one is reading and do not know > MODE + PAD9 then hit F4 to see any CC received.
But I know what you mean. Its the same with delete. If your jumping round and use delete window its set to last CC. I delete manually instead now. But yeah what happens though if you turn a pot that has 2 MIDI CCs assigned to that pot?? So it makes your idea redundant in that respect. Case in point is my MicroKorg release pot, it transmits MIDI CC72 and MIDI CC26 at the same time, so do you see what I am saying here? It would in this case, make the screen go mental if it was to work that way, and not know what to show you IMO.

The problem is not really in finding the control number, it is for finding the relevant CC recorded data. I want to avoid having to scroll through all the CC values to find the one I am after, especially if I don't offhand know the CC number being transmitted.

I don't care that your microkorg sends two CCs, I still want the MPC to display one. Perhaps the latest received. It's too bad for the microKorg, but my suggested behaviour would be useful for 99% of synths out there. The requested behaiour is to show the recorded data for the last received CC.

(incidentally, you can't send midi _at the same time_, your microkorg sends first one cc, then the other)

No you are wrong sorry. It does indeed send two CCs at same time. so again how is it gonna know which one to show.

WTF are you saying ?? ^^ that is so dumb. So you say problem is not finding CC ? ?WTF . And so you can not use the MIDI monitor to find out ?? again WTF? ? innovine think before you post and dont get narky with me.
It wont work and also you do not consider the fact that if i want to use 3 CCs at once say with 3 encoders it would go mental and you could not see what your doing on one CC. How is that useful?

Am gonna quote this again so you can read it maybe and think about what ya saying !! lmao dude.
give me any synth that sends a CC and I can identify it in seconds (midi monitor)and then scroll to that data grid edit in seconds. YOu are just lazy or recalcitrant, I edit more than a dozen CCs at the moment and never have this problem cos I use the midi monitor if i do not know it. Or look up spec sheet. Every synth is usally mapped a little different so its common to have to read or monitor CCs. Its not a practical idea at all imo. Unless you can think of something to solve the two CCs being sent. You instead of having a go at me and looking ignorant ect.

And it is indeed the case for more than one synth.

yeah sorry for being narky there innovine.
yeah mtc has a point to, but I keep away from step edit myself. Just over that kind of tracker step edit view. Its good, just I avoid it, unless I really have to edit sysex.

I suggest you consult the midi standard. a controller is transmitted as 3 bytes, the cc status byte, followed by the controller number, followed by the controller value. Although interleaving of midi packets is permitted in some cases, this is not one of them. If you don't believe me, read the spec or take a look at the raw bytes being sent. you will find that it is quite impossible to send two cc messages at once.

My posts are well thought out, clear, concise and on topic.

It wont work and also you do not consider the fact that if i want to use 3 CCs at once say with 3 encoders it would go mental and you could not see what your doing on one CC. How is that useful?

well, you could also send it a stream of your usual verbal diarrhea and then claim its useless for not understanding. A better solution would be that, when you dont understand, you refrain from dragging down the thread with irrelevant nonsense.

grabbing my synth knob, twisting it and having the cc display on the mpc sounds more practical to me than digging in spec sheets or consulting midi monitors and changing modes and moving the cursor and scrolling to the right value. If you disagree and want to do it that way then fine, my suggestion wont affect your workflow, so just be quiet about it.

Unless you can think of something to solve the two CCs being sent. You instead of having a go at me and looking ignorant ect.

the 2cc thing is your microkorgs problem. is it sending nrpn messages by any chance? either way the mpc behaviour should not be dictated by your synth, the suggested feature would work well with most synths and controllers. It is likely easy to implement, improves workflow by removing some unnecessary steps, and doesnt impact any existing features. win win all round IMO. I think its obvious who is being ignorant here, and if you persist in being a dick i will ask the moderators to step in.

m:t:c wrote:Why not use step edit? Select view to 'control change' and 'All' and that's it.

Thats worse than in the cc editor. Atleast in the cc editor you can scroll through the values and see if anything is tere. in te step editor it jumps to showing the end of the sequence and you cant see if there is data recorded for that cc without moving the cursor and scrolling. It also does not help in identifying the controller number with the synth knob. The core of the issue is that workflow will be improved if the user does not need to think about the controller number, or look it up and then scroll to find it. when i want cutoff, i think of the knob on my synth, not ctrl 40, and going to monitor and then to controller editor is awful. best to go to the knob, twist it, and have the editor show it.

o grow up innovine. TAke a deep breath mate and step back. your posts are not that thought out to me, at all. I got MIDI ox as well, and am looking at my midi monitor.
Dont try lecture me on how MIDI works dude I was doing this while your where still knee high to a grasshopper.

Yeah thats not the first time you have told me I should shut up is it? No its not. You wanna act like a that I will treat you with contempt you deserve. But i think that maybe you need some tissues for your issues. Cos you looking like you got issues for not being able ot act like an adult and discuss. You can agree to disagree but you are just acting like a kid or bully that is not getting his way, so you resort to petty bullshit and tell me to shut up./     come on dont get all childish on me. I think you gotta calm down and be more considerate and maybe nicer when some one does not agree with you.
And you ignored mtc's valid point to. which shows me your not really interested in the topic at all but prefer to have a go at me. wrong guy to pick
Cos you look like a fool to everyone imo!!

Ask the moderators dude, they will read the posts and see you for what you are > childish and immature. See i can make an effort to not just slag you off and try to help but NO it gets ya back up hey. I wasnt born yesterday and I give you benefit of the doubt and wont be swayed by invective and trite drivel about me being this or that, cos its stupid.

Oh and i notice that when i do help you, its ok, but when I do not help you the hating starts. tut tut.
innovine wrote:or consulting midi monitors and changing modes and moving the cursor and scrolling to the right value.
poor baby has to turn a knob awwww. what a crying shame!!   look thats my honest first response to thread and it is only seeing the light of day as you try and have a go at me for discussing on a forum and on topic. I did not post my gut reaction, I made you aware of stuff that is relevant. Just cos you dont like it means you can disrespect me. Like how old are you ??12?? Cos I know few kids and they have better control and manners than you do, how do you get through life being that agro all the time ??**** me innovine what you playing at son. leave your ego at the door and try and not get personal or deride people for not agreeing.
Oh and crying to moderators means you gotta learn to stick up for your self and not go get help./ That should be for real issues, not getting your feelings hurt, or being proven wrong, or just not liking some one.
and no its not a no registered parameter number. Its 2 CCs.
If it was a real issue it would already have 300 hundred threads in last few years but seems like only one person has problem here and its you innovine. see what I am saying? And you say I dont understand!! o man that is priceless and very entertaining if not on topic. So get some maturity and discuss stuff with out invective or insult. that would be the mature thing to do. Hell im tempted to ask moderators to, just for the wtf its another mpc forums blow up laugh.

apart from the fact that I did answer.

No I did not say you were wrong about midi, reread my post. God that is exactly what I am talking about. instead of discussion you are into point scoring.
yeah you answered it after the fact, and was as I was posting. So did not see it till I sent my post, then was busy and was still a valid point as you are trying to have a go at me instead of discussing what mtc said. honestly could not reedit as I had coffee on stove and was having a ciggie.
What is your problem?? what happened today that got you so pissed?

come on you can tell uncle bliprock !

I am an uncle this week, so that title stands.
So any idea how you would solve multiple CCs?? like from a microkorg?? or other synths?
And its not just one synth either! I send multiple CCs to other synths and bounce them through MPC so again how you gonna show that?

ok, folks. let's just chill out a bit.

it's true that what bliprock suggests is not that difficult: jump back and forth between the MIDI MONITOR & the GRID EDIT midi cc screens to find & edit your values. you can even map those 2 screens to the NUMERIC button shortcut to make it quicker to move between them.

BUT... it's also true what innovine is saying: that JJ could make cc editing a faster and easier process by adding a new feature. why leave the GRID EDIT screen or keep memorizing / referencing different cc values if you don't have to?

i personally think innovines request (holding down a button while in the midi cc screen causes the display to update to the currently received midi cc #) is a good one. it's a simple and unobtrusive request that shouldn't mess with anyones workflow. i'm going to write it up and email it to JJ myself. of course, it will ultimately be up to JJ if and how it actually gets implemented.

What are you going to write up and suggest as the added feature specifically?I
like the idea of this request I just do not feel the overall implementation was concise.
