MPC1000 JJOS-2XL

Simple thing, which can be worked around, but would be a nice thing if it were fixed.

Exactly as the title, a muted audio track still uses polyphony slot(s).

So you can't have too many in a sequence, regardless of how they're muted/unmuted.

Yeah well you know how audio tracks act yeah?? So it makes sense that they always take up some polyphony as they never stop playing even when muted, so I doubt you could get around that. Because then audio tracks would not work. If you see what I mean. It is always playing as you play sequence, even when muted, that is why when you unmute it, it is still playing in place in your sequence.

The auido track implementation has changed since it was first introduced and if you look you can find old threads discussing the way it used to work and the pros and cons of the changes that were made.

Early on (well before XL) audio tracks worked like any other sample in that they had a true voice mute that actually turned the track on and off in the sequencer. People bitched about this because they couldn't bring the track in and out in mid-play and would have to wait for the audio track to re-trigger at the beginning after unmuting (that's if the A.T. trigger was looped, of course). Did save polyphony, thou.

However the bitching continued so the voice mute was changed to an audio mute so now the mute effects the track volume only but does nothing to stop the AT from playing so you can bring it in and out whenever you want.

And the worlds most content group of drummachine users ever were then overjoyed, until they noticed their polyphony had dissapeared and when they figured out why naturally a number of them bitched to have it changed back again or to provide some type of toggle (DID we have a toggle at one point? So many revisions...), but when you think about it there's really no reason for this. If you want it to work the old way all you have to do is use the audio track WAV as a regular sample and give it a midi trigger in the sequence like all the other "normal" samples.

yep, I can certainly live with having to keep track of how many audio tracks I've got, but I definitely need the mid-sequence muting and unmuting.
