Hi guys

i have an mpc60 II
i use a program on computer to make mpc3000 prg (.snd) and i import them into mpc60
sometimes it happen that when i hear some samples into mpc60 there is a noise in some of them... i'm pretty sure it's the conversion of the 3.10 os and (for me and my 2 cents) is the normalize function it has....
my questions are:

- do u have the same prob?

- do u know if that normalize fuction could be swith on / off?

c'mon nobody use the computer program application to create prg for the mpc 60??

I did once and it deleted my entire HDD with samples and songs on it..... I was gonna back it up the next week... so yeah I learned my lesson and do it the oldschool way.

Are you talking about a normalize function in MPCeditor?

yeah i use a program for mac and create program and covnert sample..then copy to floppy and put floppy into mpc 60
no problem at all....
the only is that sometimes, with some samples, it gives me strange noise
i think it's when mpc60 load that sounds and normalize them... that's the point maybe... and i think you can turn off that funtion
but dunno why

yea now I get what you are on about, the 60 autonormalize the 16bit mpc3000 files to 12bit.... at least that is whats going on I think. And no, I do not know of any option to turn that off. :(

that's the point... it's ok to convert to 12bit....
it's the normalize function (i think) that insert that noise, a sort of distortion due the high level of sound...
i try with low volume samples...

I could be mistaken, cause i don't use nor have i ever even seen MPC Editor, but it sounds like tha normalize function is compressing tha 16 bit files to 12 bit. Which could be creating a sort of hi pitch noise/static/vibration under your sample. Durning tha 16 to 12 bit converting process a lot of higher frequencies are rounded off and compressed. is tha noise thats occurring happening on higher pithed sounds/noises i.e. hi hats, shakers, snares or does it happen on all types frequency varied sounds? Cause what your talkin about reminds me alot of what happens when you use tha on board compressor in tha 60. Like i said before i could be way off! but no matter, tha only way i can think ta fix your problem is ta go about sampling tha real and old fashion way straight from your source to tha MP wit nothing in tha signal chain but maybe an EQ (if you desire). Then do your chops in tha 60 instead of on a computer. in tha beginning it will take a lil ta get use to but once you get it down choppin moves like a breeze and its way better for your production skills ta make music by ear as opposed to using your eyes.

na usually is the opposite...
however it doesn't happen so frequently... this time occur on bd and toms... so basically on lower frequencies...
i have to understand if this is related to mono sample or stereo, something i don't analyze..

This is common problem happened to me a bunch when I used to sample breaks and load programs from the 3000 and my homie's used to do this too. Yeah something about the compressing that does it but not with everything just certain things.

i try stero/mono... the same no differences

i try to reduce gain and it' works... it seems the normalize function into mpc 60 overgain the sample... so if u reduce the gain into computer it works...

i try with one of the sample that make noise....

the original --- noise

the original with a small gain reduction into computer --- noise but less

the original with a massive gain reduction into computer --- no noise

and after all the third is the one that is louder into mpc....
dunno.... but it works
