Keygroups and the MPC 60

Is it even possible to set these up? I scoured the manual and found nothing on the subject so I'm assuming it cannot be done.

For those who don't know it's like 16 Levels on the MPC but you spread the sample across the range of a midi keyboard instead.

Will I have to pick up an external sampler to do this? Any help would be much appreciated.

nah son the 60 needs a sample per pad. You can assign one sample to multiple pads and change the tuning (or is it copy the sample? I never do this myself) and get a keyspan from one sample or a multisample, but it isn't really best suited for that kind of thing. That's why you tag team the 60 with an s5000 or something that is less percussion driven and more melodicly useful. That said, there is no stopping the 60 from working like this, some of the factory disks even have a whole bank of some melidic instrument set up like 16 levels without 16 levels engaged.

There is nothing called keygroups in the 60 though.

Cool, I see. I think the MPC 2000 XL allows you to spread samples across an external midi keyboard. I think it's called "auto chromatic assignment" or something like that. I think I'll have to look into getting an external sampler.

So, elmacaco, I see that you mention the S5000 quite a bit. I've been keeping my eyes on the S3000xl for some time. Would you say that the S5000 would be a way better buy?

Autochromatic just makes a program from one sample detuned, it's not like 16 levels in that it is actually a separate program. Still useful, but I'd rather use a rack sampler for that.

Seeing as the S5000 is available for just a little more than an s3000, and it has a much better user interface, I would recomend it if it is in your budget. With the USB card it has better connectivity than the mpc1000.

thats hot it has usb. I heard good things about the 3000xl i have an s2000 and its real nice, if u scsi it to a pc. the interface is very simple, thats why its so cheap cause no wave form editing, but with mesa or milliuem on the pc, u can work real fast with it. the 5000 is the hot ish but its some bread. i would go for the 3000xl or the 2k if u got a pc.

Thanks for the insight guys. I'm going to do some more research into the S5000. Guess I'll just have to save a bit longer for it. I want some really nice filters and a dope interface cuz I'm trying to get away from the computer completely for sample editing and filtering.

The only thing I like to use the pc for is tracking and post production stuff.

I've seen them go for 300 - 450 with the USB option.

I got my S6000 for 600 with USB, 16 outs, effects, and max memory,

That's a steal in my book.
