Internal Zip switches the mpc off???

Are you sure the zip drive works properly? Mine isn't that noisy. If something is shorting out inside the zip drive it could draw too much power from the MPC causing it to shut down.

When you spliced together the power cable, were you careful not to break any of the stranded wires -- if you break too many of them, it may not allow enough current to draw to the drive.

yeah, but as i said i had the same problem before splitting the cable.
i had connected the zip direct to the white connector where the 3,5"floppy was with the same result.

perhaps my internal zip is not working correct cause its a 2nd hand from ebay.

i will go for a cf-reader instead. these zips svcks anyway...

The ZIP drive you have is, for what ever reason creating a power and possible bus short to chassis ground when you hit the eject key.

This would cause a current over draw; and the SECONDARY power distribution board in your MPC3000 would exhibit some basic short circuit protection by momentarily dropping the output enough to cause a reboot.

This could be the result of a bad ZIP drive.

Possibly also the result of a bad internal modification job.

You may experience similar problems with an installed card reader.

With this in mind...

Go over the modification job you have performed.

Make certain your various adapters and such are not inadvertently touching other circuit stages in your MPC3000.

Maybe upload and link to some hi res close up pictures of your installation job.

These may help a lot with any further diagnosis attempts.

as i said the same strange behavior was also before i splitted the powercable and connected it direct to the 3,5"floppy powercable.
so i think it has nothing to do with my modjob.
perhaps really a bad zipdrive.

i will get the cfreader soon and keep you updated.

problem solved: it seems that it was a bad zip drive...
anyway, i replaced it with a cf-card reader and i am happy
