you have to set local control to OFF on the Motif. It is somewhere in the Midi setup, the smae thing goes for any keyboard pretty much when the MPC os the master.

Also when playing the mpc pads to play motif sounds the mpc track has to be set to midi. anytime its set to drum it will play the midi thru channel and the samples.

As far as I can tell you just have to creatively work around this.
Presumably you want to play drum sounds from your Motif via MPCp pads? As in MIDI channel set, but track kept to 'DRUM'?

I would put my samples on pads that weren't being hit for the Motif, and even make a custom MIDI note assignment layout for the sounds you want to play on the Motif.

If all that sounds too complicated just get a cheap midi controller and forget trying to trigger external devices from the MPC pads, or do your beat into a multitracker & do another sweep playing the Yamaha.

this may or not be true for the motif, but it is not true for the triton rack. I can play my triton through the mpc pads, but the track must be set to DRUM, not MIDI. it won't play the sounds on MIDI. And I did nothing to the triton's internal MIDI, as in setting the local to OFF. I just turned it on and starting playing. tracks on the MPC default to DRUM, as you all know. as for not triggering your samples, just turn the sound to OFF by pressing PROGRAM SOUNDS and choosing option 1.
