That sounds like a fast easy/easy way to browse samples(mmm,yum.Pass the salt please).
Does that work with the MPC60 also ? I thought cdxtract and most other programs were for MPC3000 and newer models.

I often use the same few kits but when I need new sounds or need to rearrange kits I do this:

1.I have all my samples stored as wav files on PC. I use Guru by Fxpansion to quickly audition sounds and build a kit.
2.I then Remake the kit in MPCeditor and export as MPC3000 pgm and snd files to a zip disk.
3.Next I load The MPC3000 files to my MPC60 and save them as MPC60 format.

After that I'm ready to rock.The biggest drag is steps 2 and 3. For a while I had a zip drive,pc and MPC60 on the same SCSI chain, which meant I didn't need to exchange disks, but the MPC and PC didn't like sharing the zip drive.(as most of ya'll will know)

I don't think there's any way of accessing any partitions other than the first one when using an MPC60 formatted card. At least not that I know of. Translator can access all partitions on a MPC60 disk image, but it crashes out regularly, you really can't use it. And even if you could, you wouldn't be able to access the physical disk directly, rather an image of it..

If somebody knows of a way to access the other partitions, let it be known how..being able to audition samples with a standalone laptop would be just awesome.

An updated OS with hybrid partitions... mmm, that would be nice..

Yes, why hasn't Rohan Mansell written a version of Vailixi for the MPC60?

We need to get on his case and get him to do that asap (in his spare time).

Now that would be something.. I'd certainly upgrade straight away. Although I doubt it will ever happen since there's probably too few MPC60s around to make it economically feasible..

Edit; While we're at it, apart from them hybrid partitions, make the "load sound" menu scrollable with 3 files visible simultaneously. It's plain stupid having only one file visible at a time when there's more space available on the screen. I don't think there would be any trouble writing a simple routine for handling this.

If I only knew more about the MPC60 file system/partition scheme I would certainly try to program the needed software myself (sample transfering/auditioning) but there's not enough time available to figure everything out backwards..
