When Im feeling brave I'll probably take the old screen out - looks like I just need to desolder the two points where its attached.

i've done disoldering the old backlight on the S950 and
couldnt pull it out ... it was attached with some adhesive
to the back of the screen ....
so I literally had to dissasamble the screen to peal
the old backlight off - really scarry part of the job :(

than the new backlight didn't work at all-
maybe it's my bad inverter ?

anyway after bad expirience with akai S950
i am a bit paranoid to do the screen surgery
on my Mpc3000LE .....:(

Hmm. Well I haventnt tried to remove the old screen from my 3000, but I don't really need to.
If you can get a pic of your new backlight up, I can tell you how it differs to mine.
Appreciate it's a 3000le but honest, it was a really easy process.

Today i've successfully replaced backlight on my MPC3000 LE
just by sliding the new ( solderless one from UK) backlight on top of the old one.

but after putting MPC together i found that pads 3,4,7,11,15
won't trigger the sounds at all or even show their MIDI names ... :(

i am in a shock .....

Did i just killed my MPC ?

what could go wrong while replacing the backlight?

Image

at some point the new backlight contacts touched the old ones --- so backlight went off...
could that be the reason of the 5 dead pads?
U can see that the contacts of the new backlight overlap the contacts of the old one (see right side)

Ok.
1) First thing I would do is open the unit up and check all the internal connections. I've had pads suddenly die on me before and it was fixed by securing something that had come loose.
2) If you have a midi controller, try plugging it onto the mpc then see if you can trigger the sounds.
3) If some of the pads are working - hopefully it's nothing major.

Let us know what you find.

thanks for your fast reply ...

sure i've emidiately oppened up MPC .. touched all connections to the pads ... etc..

same thing = the pads 3,4,7,11,15 are not triggering and not changing their names on the screen
.... actually the dead pads make up a upper case letter L ...

Could be the fact that the contacts of the new backlight have touched the old contacts
on the LCD circuit board when MPC was turned on ( while opened) - could that have killed the pads?

No worries Jazz. Hope you get it sorted out and it's unfortunate you ran into these issues, hopefully you can get this fixed. Not sure where you're based but there are places where you can get this fixed in the states or uk (cimple solutions).

When the backlight contacts touched, did you notice anything. Maybe a fuse was blown somewhere but that is beyond my knowledge.

Try connecting the mpc to something else via midi or load in a program with sounds, does it work ? This could help identify where the issue is.

Did you unscrew the pad bank as well as the backlight when you opened up the unit ? Could be worth doing so again and cleaning all the contacts.

There are some guys who really know the 3000, Rohan being one of them, who may have seen this before. Hopefully you'll get a solution.

I'm not an mpc expert, but Id be surprised if it was the backlight contacts touching, as only one of them would have power to it at any one time ( ie only one backlight would be connected to the pcb)

i have only opened up the pad bank once last week to look at the pad sensors and to clean them ---
all was working as usual after that.
This time i've only replace the backlight ... didn't touched the pad bank.

How do i hook up midi controller keyboard to MPC3000 to trigger the MPC program samples..?
trying to go trough MID menus and manual... still no sounds - whats the right config?

ok so get the controller and attach the MIDI OUT of the controller to the MIDI in of the MPC.

Then load a program into the mpc.

Now I usually do it the other way i.e. mpc controls sounds elsewhere, but I suspect you may have to switch off the 'LOCAL' setting. Press the midi button on the right hand side (of the 3000) and look for the option.

now press some keys on the keyboard - do you hear any sound from the mpc ?

Don't have my mpc in front of me right now - but will try and get a better explanation to you later on.

i have this settings :

MPC3000

MIDI -> option 2 --> Active track receive channel :1 / Local Mode : ON / Soft tru : ON
MAIN SCREEN : MIDI On : YES / Pgm : 1 / Chn: OFF -(off)

i can see MIDI keyboard trigger all the pads and MIDI notes starting from
35/ C14 , 36/A02 , and so on ... but no sound coming from the MPC when triggered by MIDI keyboard.....

?

thanks for any help guys

ok try switching local mode and soft thru off, do them one at a time though i.e. switch off local mode and try....then turn the soft thru mode off if it still doesn't work.

You may have inadvertently short circuited the MPC although it may not be from the backlight. I would check around the MPC for any burnt or broken components, damaged cables, especially around the PCB edges where the case fits together as something may have gotten smashed while opening and closing. The inverter runs at 5V, if the inverter short circuited it could have damaged the 5V in the power supply.

Also, check the tips Rohan posted in this thread:

Thanks for you reply ,

I have now tried the following :

1.)connected MIDi controller keyboard-
I can see it triggering the MIDI notes
but no sound is coming from thr MPC
but rest of the PADS do trigger the samples.

maybe MIDI not configured right...or?

2.)

took the pad sensors ribbon in and out of a socket
it didn't help... :(
why only Pads 3,4,7,11,15 don't sent any data
and Not the rest of the Pads --- that doesn't make sence
does it?

heard of some harware reset ... should I attempt that too?

anyone understands/ knows MPC electronics well and has
an electronic schematics for MPC3000 LE?
