Can anybody explain to me the best way to hook two s950s to my 3000? I obvoiusly want to be able to trigger and sequence samples from both units at the same time.

thanks,
b.

I own a MPC 60 mkII with the 3.1 O.S. (3000 OS). I don't know if this is the same, but change the channel to 1 A. Meaning, midi channel 1- midi output A. If you line the cursor (blinking block) to where the letter is at and scroll with the knob, it will change it to b, c, or d. The letter tells you which midi output it will trigger. The numerical number before the letter will tell you which midi channel. I am expecting to get my 3000 in about a week, so if this doesn't help, I will get back to you. later.

example: 1A- midi channel 1- midi output A
2B- midi channel 2- midi output B

this is what sound it will trigger.

After doing a lot of searches without any luck this thread was the best I could find. Still, I keep having trouble.

What I'd like to do is this; use my S3200XL and control it by MIDI from the MPC60. However, I can't figure out how to trigger it from the pads without disabling the internal sounds in the MPC totally.

If I set MIDI to local off, then I can't use the internal MPC60 sounds. Which, of course, I would like to be able to do. If I have local on, then of course both the MPC60 and S3200XL plays at the same time. I can't set a track to just play the S3200 by MIDI, or just the internal 60 sounds. Not at the same time at least..

I have read the manual for OS3.1 and normally it's easy, but I don't understand it on this area. Any advice?

Hm ,maybe I wasn't clear enough..

I want to have both type of tracks within a sequence, both types functioning regardless of each other. Some track should be playing notes samples from the S3200XL, some other tracks should be playing samples from the MPC60.

It's easy, turn midi local off, set your 3200 track to drum and the midi channel, then program it, once you are done, change the track type to midi and you won't hear the 60 drums over it anymore.

Then turn local back on to program the 60 sounds.

Thanks! It works!

However with one slight problem.. as I hit rec and play the S3200 from the pads on the 60, I will hear the internal sounds at the same time as the recorded S3200 notes play again as the sequence is being looped. Of course it dissapear when I make it a midi track, but things will be messy with more samples I guess? right now I had only a hihat loaded internally in the 60, but it became messy enough..

Yeah, when I found out about this it was the one inelegant thing about the 3.10 OS, I'm not sure if the 60 did this before, I think soft thru being off is supposed to disable it but it doesn't. It's a bug I think. The way I work around it is to use a track per pass. So if I play out something and it loops, I change it to midi and go to the next track to add more. It is a bit of a Kludge, but it is the only way to avoid it, but what do you care, you have 99 tracks to burn. You could always copy the multiple tracks to one track and delete the others when you are done if you want all those on one track for arrangement purposes, But I haven't found the need to do that. You learn what's where pretty quick, and my tracks rarely go over 30.

if you think that's annoying, in the same set up try using note repeat on an external unit whith local off and the track set to drum, it doesn't even wait for it to loop, the internal drum sounds note repeat too!! Again, it is all solved by the midi controller and the track switch trick eases the pain ;)

I will try to find out more about it. On such an elegant machine, it sticks out like a sore thumb, but I usually use a midi controller and everything works as expected there.

Yeah, if I'm not totally mistaken I did a couple of tracks earlier this spring with the 60, an old Boss drum machine and some midi keyboard (just to trigger the Boss) and never ran into any such problems. It's just when I want to use the MPC pads for everything. However, what I don't remember is if I had done the OS upgrade at that point or not.. oh well.

I have an unused MPD-16 , maybe I could hook that one up to the 60. Thanks for your help once again, the '60 forum truly rocks. :)
