SCSIforSamplers.com internal CF reader problems

I bought an internal cf reader for my 3000. Installed it and it has some problems. Im having an issue with saving and then reloading to CF cards. Its very weird. I chopped up some drums and made a program. Then sampled other various things. Made a beat. I went to save the beat to my hybrid partition CF card and all saved except for the last sample. I was saving as all programs and samples. Then when tryng to reload it errors cause it has a partial of that last file. So I have to then delete that sample from the card and it will load up by hitting "Skip" when I get to that last file. Ive done this over and over adding more samples and what not. Its always the last sample. The mpc gives me an error, which I have written down at home, and tells me my media may be bad and to not use it. I thought also maybe its my hybrid partition card. So I got a 32mb and formatted with MPC editor and transferred the beat to that card using MPC editor also. Loads up fine but when going to save it does the same thing. Always corrupting that last file. Ive read through various threads regaurding certain jumper settings. The thing is I cant link to the exact internal reader I got as now the site forwards to MPC STuff. I sent them an email and this was the reply:

I am sorry SCSIforsamplers went out of business and sold us their web domains.

When did that happen?

I have the same drive,

First what size is your CF card?

Second did you format the card directly from the MPC?

As for the jumpers the first 3 will indicate the SCSI id (I believe by default its set to id 0)

the fourth and fifth jumpers should be on (its for SCSI I devices)

the 5th (?) 6th (?) and 7th (termination on) should be off , I have this exact same setting and it works,

You have jumper 5 on and off in this. I have two places with jumper pins. These pics are taken from me leaning into the mpc from the front. So the lid is open and the 3000's front is aimed at me.

Judging from those pictures, I'd say you haven't followed the installation instructions properly. Its very easy to short the SCSI board if those cable connectors aren't isolated.

As per your problem: have you tried re-formatting the card? Or another card?

Hmm. I did read them and these looked like the defaults for the 3000. I have reformatted the 2 gig ultra II that it came with and is the same as trying to use a 32mb card. Same errors.

Can anyone with this same cf reader post a pic of their jumper settings?

You should not move the jumpers on the CF reader, only the ones on the SCSI to IDE bridge but ...

from the pics your SCSI to IDE board is totally different from the one I have ...
mine has the jumpers on the side and has 8 of them, so you got a total different board,

I remember emailing SCSI for samplers some time ago first they told me my CF reader
did not work with my MPC 3K because I had the wrong reader ( I originally purchase it for a e-mu sampler)
which was wrong because it was a formatting issue from my end,

they only thing I can think off is the formatting of your CF card, try formatting the CF with Translator (chicken systems) software thats the last thing I would try, because if it can load and save then its ok, but something
weird happens when completing the save, I did had a similar issue when it wouldnt allow me to save any SND files at all and gave an error, only SEQ files would work, and I resolve it by formatting my CF card with Translator Pro software (using the AKAI MPC3000 format option),

Ok. This is exactly how it shipped and is shown in the instructions. I thought many people had bought and installed this same drive. So most people that have this drive have it incased some how? Any pics of anyone with a similar drive installed correctly? I'll take it all out and run tests. I did not hot glue or make any mods to this install. I read through many threads about how this guy was where to get drives. I guess bad luck on getting the last one.

Manual makes no mention of attempting to isolate or shield any components that could potentially short out.

Use of electricians insulation or air-conditioning duct tape may help to keep potential short circuits at bay.

Have you disabled MULTI SECTOR transfer mode in the MPC3000 and tried saving again ?

Tested Ide section in a computer and all works fine. I insulated all exposed parts. I disabled Multi Sector transfer mode. Reloaded files, took more samples, chopped and assigned, saved and everything was fine. Loaded another cf card, took samples, assigned, renamed, truncated, saved and all worked. Reloaded and all worked. Tried all sorts of things and they all worked. I assume the multi sector option was the problem. Ill run more tests tomorrow.

A dis-assembly, test, reconfigure, more thorough reassembly/re-installation and one setting change.

It may well have been just that.

All the work you did will be well worth it for reliability and safety reasons.
