Share your knowledge on these two classic MPCs

Hi...I was wrong. The cheap 12vdc inverter I found was evil and badly soldered and crap.

Now I want to get the proper parts for the MPC, but a lot of the links for the inverters are down or item not found.


Anyone have a lead for the inverter in the states?

Always better to purchase quality original components where possible.

Or quality second source compatible components as alternatives.

The VST price is a lot higher than what the other folks are paying. I'd like to keep the price down if possible.

Also, is there a site where I could find the replacement part for d801?

I googled the part name but came up with nothing.

Best price doesn't always mean "best deal".

The real part as sold by VST will at least keep the specification correct.

D801 is a "Part Location Designator".

It is the internal AKAI Part Location Designator used to match against an actual AKAI ordering code.

In this instance: ED383752J

Which is a "DBF40C 200V/4.0A"; Sanyo High Speed Rectifying Diode 200 volt / 4.00 AMP.

Possibly because you did not actually search for the correct part number.

If you are confident that this part is blown or needs replacing then there are other manufacturers that make drop in rectifiers of compatible specification.

Sure, but in this case nobody's using the stock EL foil, so any inverter that takes 5 volts and outputs the proper AC voltage will do. The specification doesn't matter-5vdc is 5dvc and a working inverter is a working inverter. Stuff like this is why I want to strip out the stock power supply and replace it with an atx/itx. Much cleaner power, multiple +/- rails of all sorts.

Where do you find the ordering codes? ED383752j came up nil when I googled it, and the copy of the service manual I have made the actual part name look like "D8f4oC" instead of the proper part name. I know that the components aren't named "c803" or "i802", I was just unsure of the proper part name due to the poor legibility of the text.
