MPC60 Teac FD replacment

Hi guys,

2nd post is by elmacaco and covers jumper settings.


A few Qs arise. Where do you buy these jumpers from. ALl the PC stuff ive had over the years has one jumper per device

Second, if that it? Just swap the cables around and set the jumpers as per the diagram and it wil defiantly work on my 60?

that makes the process sound a lot more complex and way over my ability.

Going through those threads you will find the details of drives that are known to work in the MPC60.

To make a drive work you will have to ensure the jumpers are set correctly or attempt physical modification.

Setting jumpers is easy, so just look for a compatible DD/DS 720k drive.

I've got to replace a 60 drive myself, so I'm in the same boat as you.

If anyone knows of a readily available replacement, drop some knowledge.

Those TEAC, Mitsumi and Sony drives listed are a **** to find.

^^^ Mind after even more research I am starting to wonder if only specific drives within the Teac FD-235HF work.

My 60 has the SCSI board as its OS 2.14 As such im thinking of just ridding myself of the burden of Floppies as it sounds a right clart on TBH.

Im considering replacing the floppy with a CF reader but its expensive. $380 dollars inc delivery to UK. So thats £235 to us limeys without import tax (if you get caught). Of course thats if you already have the SCSI board fitted and mine luckily enough did though wasnet advertised as such so got a good deal. If not another £200 for the SCSI board. All in you wont get much change from 500 squid!! (Insert eye popping smiley here)

I believe only specific TEAC drives (with jumper block) work, I also saw those drives on Ebay and decided to pass.

A cheaper option for a card reader is the HxC floppy emulator version available here for just £75.00

there are different revisions of the fd-235hf...


some have jumpers, some dont.


the fd-235hf drive that VST installed in my 60 is also labeled A549...


i think. IIRC. its been awhile, and i aint opening her up at the moment.

has anyone found the right drive yet? as mentioned it's almost impossible to find compatible drives.

I copped an original Mitsubishi MPC60 mk1 floppy drive last week from a forum member in France for €20 plus shipping.

Its still over 20 years old, but it works fine in my 60 mk2. Dude replaced his floppy with a card reader so it was going spare.

Couldn't find any of the suggested replacements (found the Teac on ebay but missed out!!) but I'm still on the look out as I could use a drive for my 60mk1. I decided to install the drive in my mk2 because my mk1 has SCSI.

Thanks guys this is a nightmare, thinking of selling it as is and using the money I get back plus some just to get a fully expanded one that I can get a cf for when cash flow permits. I saw an external amiga drive on ebay for 100US at that price I'd just buy from vst. Anyway keep us posted. Thanks again.

i was thinking of this one to put into my S950

has anyone had any success with the floppy emulator? I have no idea about images etc so not sure how simple this will be for someone like me who's pretty much only good to plug and play. I am definately considering this over the floppy though, makes sense. Am I correct in you still being limited to 720kb at a time with this though? I think I read that somewhere here on this forum.

I believe you are limited to 720kb per disc image because the HxC is an EMULATOR not a bog standard CARD READER.

However, using a SD card as storage medium means that you can store 1000's of disc images on a single card.
